hey Imani get your facts straight. this was not my first post so seriously get at me

jstersh-get your facts straight; read my post again, check out to whom I might have been referring…why would you think I was talking about YOU???

Momo5: Thanks for your interest. First off the Udel reps on the front line today were top notch. These guys weren’t the tech people nor the policy makers, and the one I spoke to couldn’t have been professional…so props to them.

Son might have faired better than others. He, was in fact, “a strong wait list candidate” His best buddy was denied outright today (but he doesn’t check the web pages and just waits for the mail…what patience!) He’s also in 11 other schools (4 with merit money) and isn’t a delaware resident in need of in-state tuition. Some of the other stories posted of kids that didn’t have a CC heads up are far more devastating, and ny heart is will all of them!

ALSO, a heart-felt thanks to all the really nice kids and parents on the U Del CC threads that were great sounding boards for our frustration. Hopefully I wasn’t too much of a kill joy for all of you who got accepted to this great school!

Watching BBC news, the tragedy in Japan with entire towns wiped out and the threat of nuclear disaster! It puts this all into perspective, no? Anyway, Congrats to all U great folks! Remember, kids “bloom where they’re planted” and I know you’ll all succeed academically…and have more than your share of fun!!! :)

Imani: thanks for reminding everyone of the perspective.

FYI: Penn State does not give ANY preference to in-state students in admission, while U. Del gives a large preference to in-state.

wow what a mess for U Del …but more so for those kids who thought they had received an acceptance and now find they were rejected or waitlisted…

In the case of the PSU admissions glitch, Penn State prematurely posted acceptance notifications on the PSU website to about 700 students. Acceptance notices for the main campus (University Park) were honored, but only to those who would have been accepted to main campus regardless. Acceptance notices for those who requested a satellite campus as their first choice were honored to their selected satellite campus. Those who were refected from main campus and referred to a satellite campus, however, were not disadvanaged- they still had a chance to be considered for main campus, but would have to wait for their decision to be made in due course

So, while Penn State “stood behind” the 700 admissions decisions they had accidentally posted too soon, these decisions all went to students who were going to be accepted anyway.

The Penn State glitch affected only 700 out of more than 100,000 applications to PSU - a fairly minor percentage. Does anyone have an idea how many U Del students were affected in by this glitch?

For reference, here’s an article about what happened at PSU.
[Error leads to early admission - The Daily Collegian Online](http://www.collegian.psu.edu/archive/2010/10/11/error_leads_to_early_admission.aspx#)

11 saw the message and registered for a decision day, 65 (ish) saw the mesaage.

UDel15, was your conversation with admissions satisfactory as far as them understanding that the bluehen site was open for all to see on friday? I’m so sorry that you and your daughter had to go through this.

jbevangelista- It was as satisfactory as it could be under the circumstances. This really has been an awful situation for all involved. I agree with Imani that the person handling the call was very professional, sympathetic and helpful.

I’m happy to see that after the initial delay and the less than satisfactory statement posted here, UD does seem to be trying to make this right for everyone, including those who were already accepted and wait listed. I hope it concludes well for all involved.
