Decisions Which College- Computer Engineering programs for a Nerdy Happy INTJ on the Autism Spectrum

Hi, my son who plans to study computer engineering needs some help in deciding which campus might be the best fit for his major and just for his happiness. He plans to continue playing the saxophone in college too, so a school wind ensemble and/ or jazz program would be great too. As for me, I am worried about him being accepted and not being stuck in huge classes. He is a happy quirky kid who generally excels in STEM, and works hard. He has been accepted and is deciding between Cal Poly SLO, Rose-Hulman, UC San Diego, RPI, and Colorado School of the Mines. He has been waitlisted at UCLA, Carnegie Mellon, and Dartmouth. Any thoughts?

To my huge surprise… https://www.rose-hulman.edu/campus-life/student-life/student-performing-arts-groups.html

Rose Hulman has lots of opportunities it seems for music.

But visit the campus if you have not. Great school but very small and like 75/25 male to female ratio. Not really anything around the campus and you have to drive to go to downtown which is kinda… eh. But kids tend to really like it there. Have him do Facebook etc.

There will be many that will jump on about Slo. Supposed to be a great school.

Nice college acceptance list. He should be proud.

Thanks @Knowsstuff.

I think local area doesn’t matter as much as class size, potential internships, help with career placement… I am really hoping for a “kind and happy” community.

Colorado School of Mines is a nice size and Golden is a nice town with a lot of things to do, mostly outdoor stuff like hiking and biking and kayaking. I think there are musical opportunities and there is definitely a pep band for football and basketball.
