I GOT IN! I’m still waiting on some more news but I thought the video they sent me in the email was the best acceptance I have gotten thus far. :)

I am domestic - live in the US
I applied for FA, there is a big gap (15000-20000) between my FASCA amount and the grant provided

If I was accepted by a school like U of NC-Chapel Hill, I wouldn’t even spend time to ponder about it and accept the offer right away. UNC-Chapel Hill don’t usually take lots of internationals, I heard. And a University with a pretty much same overall ranking as Bryn Mawr would be a better choice from my point of view.

(and I like basketball, so if u do, go to UNC!!!)

Waitlist…kind of surprised. Especially considering the other girls that got in from my school. I guess it is the life of the international student…

Bryn Mawr meets full demonstrated need with a combination of grant, loan and work. Bryn Mawr uses Institutional Methodology (IM) to determine the difference between the total cost of education at Bryn Mawr including books and other expenses and a familys estimated contribution.

Cost of Education

Expected Family Contribution (determined with IM)

= Need

The maximum amount of loan included to meet need in a Bryn Mawr financial aid package need is $5,500 for first year students, not $7,500.00.

We consider each student’s situation very carefully. If you have questions about your award, or need clarification, please call the financial aid office 610-526-5245. Understanding the differences between different institutions financial aid packages can be very confusing so we welcome the opportunity to review your award with you.

My daughter receiived a 3,500 sub stafford, a 2,000 unsubsidized stafford, and a 2,000 Perkins loan. She also received a 2,000 workstudy but we would have to foot that upfront, since it’s spaced throughout the year and not always guaranteed.

Thank you for your advice
The only problem is that they do not offer Financial aids to international students so it is a little hard for my family. :(

FA is really a big problem… I applied for FA when I apply for Bryn Mawr, and I think that’s one of the reason why I am in waitlist

I applied for FA and got accepted at Bryn Mawr.
Of course, I still have many options to consider, but I feel very honored to be welcomed to their class of 2014.

Can the international waitlisted students post thier stats? So we can compare just how ‘need-aware’ bryn-mawr is. Also, it would help if you post your other acceptances/rejections, also mentioning if those colleges are need-blind or not. I’ll start off.

There was a part of the FA package that said they would listen to appeals if things have changed and look at comparable FA offers. Do you think that means just on their level, schools close to their rating and has anyone heard of them meeting that amount?
I’m sure a lot has to do with their strong desire to have the student and finances, but it can’t hurt if you really want to go there.

^from what i gathered in my letter, they meant they’d be open to appeals if your circumstances had changed that made it harder for you to pay. i’m sure they’d be really friendly if you called them though.

I hope so, it seemed liked the special circumstances and looking at other financial aid packages were two different things, but of course they aren’t going to match awards exceeding your EFC unless they really want a student. I do hear of that, but not often.

@ Debruns

When I read that, I thought it meant we could call/email them and tell them about updated circumstances and also send in copies of other FA offers from other schools and they’d deliberate money and get back to me… is anyone trying this? I don’t want to sound annoying to financial aid…

I know what you mean. I don’t know about special circumstances, but my daughter did get a couple of better aid packages. She wants to wait until she hears from a couple more that are closer to them in ratings, etc. She doesn’t know if they would care if she got 10,000 more if if wasn’t an institution they felt echoed theirs.
She also wants me to tell them our income was quite a bit lower 4 years ago and although they might just look at your income now, it shows how saving wasn’t as easy.
