1830 SAT
GPA 3.8 UW 4.5 W

The essays mattered a lot because I didnt do so well on those since i applied last minute

Congrats to everyone!

good thing I wasn’t in love with Kenyon, I was waitlisted and a little surprised. Is this common?

Interview, couldn’t afford to visit
2280 SAT
5.2 weighted GPA (All As, all honors and mostly APS, valedictorian of 380)
two 5s on AP exams, lots of extracurriculars, good essays and recs…
what really surprised me was that I am a National Merit Finalist who picked Kenyon as my first choice. Oh well, I also found out I got the Echols program at UVA today as well as the Monroe at William and Mary so no worries! I was just wondering how much this might have to do with the fact that Kenyon is NOT need-blind, and I did need a significant amount of aid. Is this a common occurrence?
Congrats to everyone! What an exciting time!

I think Kenyon bases decisions a lot on essays and overall fit. If they think you’re a good fit (bases on essays) then you’re pretty much in!
Congrats to all Kenyon was a wonderful school and Gambier is truly charming!

accepted
3.7 gpa unweighted
30 act
no honor classes
class rank top 30%
no APs
i supposed my essays were good…or interview…or luck…

ugh i was just wait listed. i’m honestly a little surprised. i wasn’t exactly expecting to be accepted, but i thought i was well in the range for an acceptance. this is upsetting. i just got wait listed from middlebury this morning too. not a good day.

I got waitlisted with a 2180 (I only got a 600 on the Math, but it was next to a 780 on the Critical Reading and a perfect score on the writing), a 3.7 GPA in Honors and AP classes, a class rank in the top 10%, 200+ hours of community service outside of school tutoring and tour guiding, a National Merit Commendation, leadership in a club (plus involvement in a few others), good essays and recommendations, and a job.

The only other school I got rejected from was Davidson (well, okay, I got waitlisted there, too) and Kenyon was my serious top choice; I was kind of in love with it. I didn’t get down there to interview (I’m from New York) and that probably really hurt my application. I knew that would make them pause, but I’m kind of heartbroken anyway.

Does anybody know if there’s anything to do to bump my chances of rolling off the waitlist into the admit pile? Do I have a chance of doing that? The letter I got today said that if I “cared to provide the Committee with any additional information concerning my interest in Kenyon, I could state my interest in a letter or an e-mail.” But I don’t know what that means.

Congrats to everybody who’s been accepted, though!

Accepted; 33 ACT, Nat’l Merit Commendation, Salutatorian rank, etc.
Congrats to all those admitted, and to all those not: I know a ton of good people who were waitlisted, so I guess it was extra tough this year for the AdCom to make decisions!

@Bao
Pretty much mail them your most recent r

I got waitlisted with a 4.1 weighted, 30 ACT, work experience, several leadership positions, essays that I sent to other schools for supplements, interview, visit, several phone calls.
I just wonder why. Demographics?
But today, I was welcomed into Grinnell’s community. Taking my name off the waitlist, hopefully one of you who was also waitlisted will get in.
Sorry if this is depressing, Kenyon became a part of me for several months.
Have fun on the Middle Path next year!

Waitlisted.

34 ACT, 35 Superscore
4.0 UW
3/21 class rank
3 sport varsity athlete

I’m a little surprised, but it makes sense. I showed virtually no interest, and while I would have loved to attend, I’m not too cut up about it.

I will not be accepting my place on the waitlist, and good luck to all you other waitlisters!

to those of you that were waitlisted and would love to be accepted, I recommend making a visit if possible. from what I’ve read on this thread it seems as though Kenyon shows a tremendous amount of preference for those who take the time to visit the campus.

also I recommend writing or calling them about your application to add any extra details or awards you may have received this year.

I think Kenyon really appreciates students who take the time to show just how much they care about the school and potentially attending it. good luck to those who were waitlisted!

I’ve already visited the campus… and I’ve been emailing them with awards I’ve gotten this year already as well. I don’t know. I know it wasn’t guaranteed that I’d get in, but I was right in the middle of all their stats and I thought my essays were good… Oh well.

Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: hmmm I think they could just tell that it wasn’t my first choice

General Comments: Accepted to Northeastern, UMichigan, Carleton, BC, Colby, Middlebury and NYU Abu Dhabi, so I’m fine with this. First waitlist I will be attending NYU Abu Dhabi for sure

I couldn’t agree more. My D was rejected or waitlisted at every top LAC she did not bother to visit, and accepted at every one she visited. Now that just might be a coincidence, but I don’t think so.

BaoBabs, NY to Gambier, Ohio is not that big a deal. It’s a one day drive, maybe 8.5 hours, depending on where you are in the city. If Kenyon is really your top choice, follow toujours’ advice. Gas up the car and get your butt out there. Flying to Cleveland is a piece of cake. Rent a car at the airport and drive for a couple of hours. March into their offices and tell them how badly you want to go to Kenyon.

I know some people visited prior to receiving a waitlist notice, but your status has now changed. Now you’re competing with a much smaller group of people: the people on the waitlist. Do something to distinguish yourself from them. It may not work, but you have nothing to lose, other than a few dollars to make the trip, and everything to gain.

Decision: ACCEPTED

Objective:
SAT I (breakdown):
ACT: - 28, superscore: 30
SAT II: none

Major Awards (USAMO, Intel etc.): none

Subjective:
Extracurriculars (place leadership in parenthesis): Varsity Tennis (Captain), guitar lessons, ping pong club, chess team
Job/Work Experience: taught tennis at park district
Volunteer/Community service: worked at daycare
Summer Activities: played tennis…
Essays: considering my other stats: apparently amazing
Teacher Recommendation: just like above, must have been good
Counselor Rec: ^^

Interview: pretty solid. ^^

Other
Applied for Financial Aid?: no
Intended Major: psych, russian
State (if domestic applicant): IL
Country (if international applicant):
School Type: catholic parochial
Ethnicity: white
Gender: male
Income Bracket: upper middle?
Hooks (URM, first generation college, etc.): nada

Reflection
Strengths: essay, visit, luck, i suppose no financial aid could be a factor
Weaknesses: class rank, gpa, possibly even act- relative to people who were waitlisted or denied
Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: accepted because good essays good visit good fit

General Comments: I figured Kenyon was a stretch, but I’m excited I got in, and I’m excited to go there next year. i applied to rhodes college, beloit college, Illinois wesleyan, knox college, and kalamazoo

Maybe, maybe not. I was unable to visit any of the colleges I applied to, but I’ve been accepted two top LACs already, and am half-expecting one more in the mail tomorrow. I was not accepted at Kenyon though, which I believe was due to lack of shown interest. Take that to mean what you will.

Heard from a very good source at a school sponsored banquet last night in Seattle – the average GPA of incoming class ~ 4.0.

^^For those of you with high stats, great ec’s, etc. Don’t forget that Kenyon meets 100% of demonstrated financial need and they are not need-blind (except during ED1). So, the more money you need, the more difficult it is to get in.
