wow...that's the only reason I can think of because those stats are very high...but don't worry I really can't see the UW rejecting a 3.9uw 1370...unless u didnt meet some requirment

S's acceptance arrived in the mail today.

Here's the trail:

S snail mailed a paper app about Nov. 29 or 30 from out of state.
Entered into their data base Dec. 9. In the week before Xmas, it said awaiting prelim review. When I looked on Jan. 5, it said app has been reviewed and will be informed by mail. Mail came Jan. 8. I think I happened to check the very day the record was updated.

Acceptance letter arrived Jan. 8

Good luck to all.

they've reviewed my app.

SAT/GPA? In state?

Applied November 29 and stiilllll waiting a preliminary review, I must really have no chance!

What are your SAT/GPA?

My D was accepted! She received the packet on Jan. 9. She's out of state - CA - Stats are UW GPA 3.65, SAT I -1370, ACT 30, SATII - Writing - 740, Lit. -700, MathIC- 640.
For those of you who are applying to UCs also, if accepted to UCs and UW, where would you choose to go and in what order. My D is leaning towards UW and is applying to UCLA, UCD, UCSB and UCSD.

Any school in California.

lol true that. If I got into UC (or probably any school in CA) I wouldn't even think about it. Cali is heaven compared to WA.

I got into UW and I am also a CA resident...I applied to UCD, Cal Poly, UCSB, UCSD, and SDSU. I would probably go to all of them over UW except SDSU...mostly because of less rain, and way cheaper...out of state tution is rediculous.

I'll play devil's advocate. I already have 2 at the U. Washington. I have my last applying this year to UCB, UCLA, UCSB--she is already accepted at the UW. (Personally, I like Davis, but couldn't talk her into it.) I have given this a lot of thought--I just don't think that any of the UC's encompass all that the UW has to offer. I think many of them have stronger aspects to them--either academics, or weather, or diversity, or prestige-but I don't think any has a combination of positives like the UW. In my mind, each of the UC's have some super strengths and some weaknesses (according to my D's criteria for a school) that gives the edge to UDub. At this point we'll just be happy to have some of those hard decisions to make! It will be her decision in the end. By the way, both my others applied for and received in-state residency after their freshman year up there-a definite plus!

Wow. My application status changed from "given initial review, decision pending" to "your app has been reviewed. Will be informed by mail when decision becomes available"! So I guess all those people fearing that "initial review, pending" message means something bad, they need not fear. (On the other side, maybe I'm getting a rejection after all...)

When did your message go to "given initial review, decision pending" and what are your SAT & GPA? And, when did you initially apply? Thanks.

I applied November 22. Message changed from "awaiting prelim review" to "given initial review, decision pending" when I finally got my info on NET ID stuff in mail, which was December 30 (The message was already like that when I made my account and logged in). Changed to "your app has been reviewed" just today.
Stats:

International freshman
1370 SAT, 790/680/630 SATII
3.90 uw GPA
13/199

The length of time to admit most certainly had to do with your international status.

caseyatbat...what is "all that the UW has to offer"? I still have not visited the campus or done much research on the school...

The UDub draws a great student, but allows the dedicated bright student to excel-perhaps it's not as hard to be a stand out there than at some of the more elite UC's. (less cut-throat?) I believe that it also generally draws kids who might be more "well rounded" than at some of the number oriented (SAT/GPA) UC's. I prefer the racial diversity of UW students to some of the UC ratios and I also like the socio-economic diversity in Wa. (though probably not much different in that aspect than UC's). I appreciate the UW's proximity to a major airport, the fact that it is VERY near, (but not in) a great city with a huge variety of options--from sports teams, to museums, theatre, music venues, restaurants etc. My personal feeling is that Seattle feels safer and cleaner than either L.A. (lived there for 13 years) or SF/Berkley (lived here for 7 years). It's pretty hard not to love the city--kinda like a west coast Boston. The campus is far more impressive than any UC campus...not even close in that aspect. The football stadium is just downright breathtaking. The D1 sports program is extensive, well supported and games well attended. My kids tell me that one of their highlights is walking to a football game on a beautiful autumn afternoon with zillions of fans (if you are into that). Some of the UC's have comparable programs--some don't. The Greek system at the UW is alive and well but doesn't dominate the social aspect of the school. Actually, I don't think it does at any UC's either. But, because the kids live in their houses from freshman year on (very different from most Greek systems), frats have much less of a social "status" feel to them. They are more of an alternative place to live -and bond - than some sort of party affiliation that some UC's seem to promote. All in all, I think I just like the overall feel of the type of student the school attracts. The academics are great in many areas (as with some UC's), good is many, and probably not as strong as some UC's in others. But with a daughter that doesn't know what academic direction she is going into, we can't pick a school for any certain academic area...just gotta go for "fit" and have faith that it all works! (My 2 others majored in Comp. Sci. and accting.--both super strong depts. there. Neither went to college knowing what they would pursue).
Sorry to ramble. Maybe I could send this the UW public relations and they'de give me a job or something!!
P.S. Good chance D will end up at a UC---she loves Ca. weather.

Wow, I loved your description of UW caseyatbat. UW, man, awesome school! I'm not sure if you remember me (we chatted a little bit on the Boston College forum), but since our last chat, UW has looked better and better for me. Haha, right now I'm just so confused!

I've already told you how much I love BC, but after some really heavy thinking (and depending on whether or not I get into the Honors Program at UW) I've come to realize that the U would have just about everything I would want in a college.
Academically, I think UW has more resources than BC for the direction that I'm thinking of going. Is your daughter still considering BC?

I'm thinking of "going Greek" so I was interested in what you had to say about the Greek system at UW. Were you or any of your kids in a sorority/fraternity? Would you happen to have any more information or opinions on the Greek system and reputations on any specific sorority?

P.S. I especially liked the comment you made about Seattle being like a "west coast Boston." However, this comparision between Boston and Seattle doesn't really make my situation any easier. ;-)

Applied NOvember 29
SAT 1130 (500M/630v)
GPA I didn't put because I wasn't sure how they wanted it calculated, and my school has a different scale, and when I called she said it wouldn't hurt your chances if you didnt put it there, but if the wrong GPA was put there you might get hurt, so she said if you really dont know how to calculate the GPA you should just leave it blank, so I did.
I have a 3.74/4.5 weighted gpa and 3.4 uw
Class Rank- 45/364
Good essays, better community service/ecs

Your AI is 53. Automatic admit is AI 70 (GPA 3.7 SAT 1220). I think everyone on this board who has been accepted so far has had an AI of 70 or higher. You will have to hang on through the comprehensive review process.
