Decisions?

So does anyone know if UW actually rejects people early? Or can you only get rejected later on.

well they obviously reject pple who havent met the requirments (.5 years of art...) pretty fast. If u got all the req. and stuff and u have average grades and scores they ll wait a little longer to see that like 15,000 other pple with above average grades/scores didnt apply. But Dopke turst me ur gnna get in with ur scores. I would bet my manhood on it...

lol, I appreciate your confidence.

Will my daughter hate me? She got her 1240 and 3.55 into the UW on Dec. 1. Her GPA took a hit when I insisted she keep a chemistry class where she struggled in spite of not needing the class and having As in all other science courses. I told her it would be better to stick with it and finish regardless of the grade; that admissions people would respect not dropping a class or taking a P. Now I wonder. Did I sink her ship or does she have a decent chance of getting in? By the way; all bias aside her essays are very strong. Do these essays really make a difference? Thanks

mmboys07--are you in or out of state? I have heard that most large Uni's are somewhat stat oriented--just so hard to know how much they look at the extras. Have you seen the chart on the UDub website that shows general probabilities of admit chances (based on SAT and GPA)? For D's sake, I hope you are IN state...I am fairly certain that it is a tougher game for out of state kids...

Thanks for the reply. In state. Yes, I have looked at the bar graph you mention. My D seems to be in the category where the vast majority are accepted. I know the UW uses an admissions index for automatic admits (3.8 & 1400 ought to do it) and everyone else is put in the "Let's take a look pile." I guess we shall see.

mmboys07-good luck!
In regards to ??'s above, I have never heard of anyone getting rejected "early". That doesn't mean it doesn't happen....but I haven't heard of it. I do know kids who found out in March that they had not gotten in (most from out of state), but I guess I never really thought to ask WHEN they applied. I also can't state for sure if ALL priority (Dec. 1) apps are answered right away. I want to say that my son (OK grades, big SATs), who didn't hear until March applied early, but I am not positive that he did. That might be worth a call to admissions...good question.

Is there a huge draw back to applying later?

I was planning on getting my application in some time later this month, I didn't even think about applying early. After reading this thread I'm a bit scared.

1360 SAT
3.69 GPA
Plus I'm in state.

I wasn't too concerned until now.

Don't worry about it Xiddok, you're in.

My GOD! Everyone here who's applying has higher stats than me! :( I don't think I'm gonna get in now.

mmboys - wow, those figures are high. I knew they went up

only a 2-3 years ago, it was still 3.7,1200 SAT and that was good enough to get automatic.

Xiddokj-your scores look great. I think the only reason to apply early is to be considered for merit $$$. And, since the UW has this early reply system for some applicants, some probably feel that if they can get an acceptance under their belt in Dec. that it will relieve some inevitable stress. Everyone needs to stay calm. I think there are about 5,000 freshman slots left!!

HA I have way lower stats than you do.

:p I'm not waiting until March to call up UW to ask about my application! They say that "Autumn quarter 2005 admission applications that are complete by January 15th (postmark dates are honored) usually receive an initial review within six - eight weeks after the Admissions Office receives all required documents, but this is often longer during peak periods."

Has anyone know a person who was rejected; appealed and had the rejection overturned?

Yeah, couple years ago this girl I knew applied, rejected, and went back to appeal and got accepted. I think she said they said something about "Oh, yeah you should have been accepted" and ended up sending her an acceptance letter a couple weeks later. With that in mind, I wouldn't bank on this happening to everyone. This was probably a very rare case that it was that simple to overturn.

I don't think they made a mistake. I think that they rejected her for statstical purposes (because they can't let EVERY ONE of the kids with 1350 and 3.9gpa in), and then let her in because they found out that she wasn't using them as a safety or something..

For UW's Direct Admission into certain colleges, do any of you know if they accept you to UW first, and then accept you later (if they find you qualified) into that specific college. Or will they say it all in the first letter if you have been accepted to UW and accepted into College of Engineering (for example).

"---they can't let every kid with a 1350 and 3.9gpa in." Why?

Many of the highly qualified kids who apply for UW don't fill in mandatory sections of application, such as the essay, because they most of them can get in without it. I'm thinking some of these these kids, who wait until near the deadline to submit their application are probably the ones who get rejected....

And look at the graph!

http://www.washington.edu/students/uga/fr/reqs/fr_admit_graph.jpg

Heh so that's like 3900 applicants in the highest range there, of which probably 3800 get acceptances. That'd suck to be one of the 100 out of almost 4000. :/
