Still, I'm in-state with an AI above 70 and it still says that my application is "awaiting a preliminary review."

Do you mind posting the particulars (SAT/GPA)?

It is possible the admissions office is on winter break, they don't necessarily have to tell you that you got in until march...

The admissions office worked last week and will this coming week as well. Although it is likely they had fewer staff and closed down Friday. However, it does seem they
don't really have a pattern of how they respond to the applications. In any case my d is handling this better than I am, although I am concerned my d doesn't really want to go anywhere else. So far, I have only managed to get her to look at Western as an alternative even though there are a great many regional good universities that would be great alternatives to the U (U. of Oregon, Arizona to name two.)

MY GPA's a 3.97, and my SAT's a 1490

btw, mmboys07, is your daughter enrolled in Running Start? I have some friends who did Running Start last year who's applications still "await a preliminary review". In this case, it could be the transcripts which may be slowing down the process.

No, she is not involved in running start. In fact; according to the application directions she did not have to send a transcript.

Hey, thermodude my stats are sorta similar to yours and my account also says that my application is waiting for a preliminary review. Are there any other suggestions to explain this situation? I didn't send my transcript 'cus like mmboys07 said, the directions said that I didn't have to so now I'm just hoping I didn't screw up somewhere else. I live in Tacoma and I submitted my application on December 1. I've heard that it might take longer for applications that were received on the deadline, but this is starting to make me worry. If anybody has any thoughts, I would appreciate your response!

O.K. now I see your numbers. I would say not to worry; your numbers put you well over the admissions index number for a sure thing admit. My bet is you will hear any day now. (Assuming there isn't something weird in your case.) Also; 12/1 was only the deadline for honors admissions and UW scholarships. The application deadline is 1/15. By the way: Does your myuw talk about a 6-8 week wait after the deadline has passed?

12/1 was a priority deadline in general. And part of that was for honors and UW scholarships. But that does not mean regular applicants can't apply early. Most of my friends who applied by 12/1 and got in already, are just regular apps, did not apply for honors and are not likely to get scholarships.

You are correct. Did any of your friends have an AI below 70 (3.7/1220)?

Only one did. He has 68, and he got in first week of December.

I assume he applied in early November?

No, he sent in paper application through mail around Nov. 24th. During the last week before the deadline.

Was the person the member of some affirmative action (unofficial) class? Otherwise; everything seems just to be random. Makes you wonder that acceptance may have a lot to do with totally out of the blue circumstances. I attended an admissions presentation with my d at the U in September. The young man, who reads applications, said he once admitted a kid simply because he liked the essay and he made the decision on the spot based on the essay only. He then went on to say how he denied a kid with a 1500 SAT (didn't say why). I think his point was: Remember; I am a 24 year old graduate student working in admissions and I have absolute power over your s or d!

dont think so, he's asian-japanese. yeah, i agree uw seems to be very random in how they go about their admissions process. Especially with the order which the process them.

I'm kind of interested in whether or not any out of state students have been admitted or not. I turned my application in at the beginning of November and they still haven't even started to look at it!

you don't know if they ve looked at it or not. It's either "preliminary review" or they have decided and the status changes to something else (thus, u ll get an answer within a week)

I'm out of state living in cali, the only reason i'm applying here is cuz of the strong bioeng. I don't really know if i have a chance but i applied just in case. The one really weak spot on my application is my gpa.
3.29 uw, 3.7weighted
by the time i graduate i'll have taken 7 ap's
1500 sat1, and pretty good essay/ec's.

Well this will be interesting. I have been haunting these boards now for several days in the interest (without her knowledge) of my d trying to keep track of admissions stuff. You have an admissions index of 63/64; out of state. My d is in state with an AI of 64 (3.55; 1240) with a like number of honor/AP classes. An AI of 70 gets a person a likely automatic admit. Everyone else is in comprehensive review. All bias aside, I believe my d's essays are brilliant. In any case, I hope you get in; and if you do, my d better sure as ______ better get in. If not, I will be one ticked off Washington taxpaying dad.
