Decisions

Isn’t that great for an institution of higher learning? It reminds me that I once saw a typo on their website also.

anyone know when the decisions will be posted on SPIRE?

Accepted with 8000 per year!

it wont link to the decision

Decision link show up on initial page or application status check page?

Got mail in NY.
Accepted in Commonwealth Honors!

would you mind saying which state you’re from and if you found out by mail or SPIRE?

Son was accepted in NJ by snail mail. $12,000 a year and Honors College.

Congratulations to all that got in…

Accepted with 2,000/year from OOS

Stats: 3.3 GPA
ACT:31/SAT 2040

Okay, dumb question. My son was accepted to UMass. The acceptance said, "On behalf of the University of Massachusetts Amherst, I am pleased to offer you a Chancellor’s scholarship in the amount of $8,000. This award recognizes your academic and personal achievements and your demonstrated motivation to succeed. "

Is this amount $8,000 – 8,000 in total or 8,000/year?

^ That’s per year.

And it’s a pretty decent amount, too.

Congrats!

Are you sure it is per year? We cannot figure it out for sure and can’t find any info on the website. Are you sure it is per year? I don’t mean to question you as you were so darn nice to answer my question in the first place, but how do you know?

Well, when my S got one a few years back it was per year, no one has ever reported that the scholarship amount was split over 4 years, it would be pretty misleading to report it as an amount that has to be split over four years without explicitly saying so.

If you have any doubts, call the school. An anonymous forum such as this is unlikely to ease your mind.

From the website:

Chancellor’s, Director’s and Dean’s Scholarships

UMass Amherst Undergraduate Admissions offers scholarships to admitted freshmen whose SAT and GPA profile are especially strong. Other factors are also considered. Please note that UMass Amherst does not use the GPA provided by the high school but instead recalculates a GPA for every applicant, using the same weighting for honors, AP, and college coursework. This recalculation is done in accordance with the standards outlined by the Massachusetts Board of Higher Education. These scholarships may be combined with tuition waivers.

Scholarship application: None required
Notification: Admissions Office will notify recipients at the time of acceptance
UMass Amherst GPA requirement: 3.2 or higher
Renewable up to an aggregate total of four years of full-time undergraduate enrollment

And while I was looking at that I found this new scholarship for Mass residents:

[Massachusetts Office of Student Financial Assistance](<a href=“Office of Student Financial Assistance / Massachusetts Department of Higher Education”>Office of Student Financial Assistance / Massachusetts Department of Higher Education)

Might be worth a look if you end up attending and are instate.

My daughter received the admission letter today with a Chancellor’s scholarship offer of $8,000 per year (subject to her maintaining at least a 3.2 GPA). That was totally unexpected!

I reread the information and it does sound like the scholarship is per year. The reason I questioned it is because I called the admissions office today right before they closed and I talked to someone who said that is it a “one time scholarship.” I was rushing so much that I didn’t call the financial aid number in the letter, just the general admissions number. So my thought is that someone answered the phone who did not know what she was talking about. But I will check again tomorrow. I did read the letter again and it does indeed look like per year.

Congrats to everyone who got in!

Are any of those $8/year for Instate, or are they all OOS?

Pretty sure those are only OOS. My son has a tuition waiver but that’s only worth ~$1700. Better than nothing though!
