Sorry, guys. I just re-read my post and realized how obnoxious it sounded. Apologies! I didn't mean for it to sound that way.

I just wanted to point out that students who get rejected from "safeties" - whether the safeties are Skidmore or a less competitive college - shouldn't read too much into it. The admissions officers know what is best for their colleges, and we shouldn't try to second guess them.'

I wanted to reassure Travelgirl, not to diminish the achievements of those who were accepted.

No worries, I considered it a safety too.

If there's one thing I've found out so far, the interest you demonstrate in attending a college is key to your acceptance.

Skidmore was my only safety, but I made sure to write a personal essay explaining what I liked about it and making them know that I was interested.

However, I got my financial aid package from them and they expect my family to pay $11,000 more than Amherst expects (15k vs. 4k) there is no WAY my family could pay $15,000 a year...and I have always loved Amherst. I sent my reply card back declining their offer for admission, I wanted to be considerate of people on the waitlist.

Granfallooner-- I, too, was accepted to the London program.
Momwaiting for new- I believe you are mistaken, as all those who recieved the London offer are, in fact, accepted to the college. All it means is that they wish for us to attend London first then, upon our return, attend the college. It is not simply to see if we are "intereted" otherwise they would not be so foolish as to send "You're IN!" brochures as well with financial aid information.

Skidmore was a safety for me, however, I have been offered the same amount of financial aid as Colby College, and the London opportunity certainly interests me.

What are you all considering?

December, I wasn't responding to the London offer. I know nothing about that. I was responding to Travelgirl's anxiety that Skidmore was supposed to be her safety school - and she got waitlisted. She was extremely nervous about her other, more competitive applications.

same exact stats as travelgirl (and 2170 SAT) and got waitlisted too...well whatever...I've already got 2 safeties so they can suck on that.

Yeah I got rejected today... thought I'd be in w/o too much of a problem ,but thats the way college works!!

I applied to Colby but got rejected.

wow....i'm SHOCKED at the stats of the people getting waitlisted....you guys have great stats, and I really don't think you should worry about your other schools or feel that your Skidmore has any bearing on your chances at other schools.

i got innnn oh i love skidmore mailings. too bad my parents don't have the extra $160K that every private school insists they do. =\

SUNY for me, but at least I have a Skidmore folder.

accepted! terrible finaid... oh well.
stats:
3.9 GPA (weighted)
2120 SAT
30 ACT

Accepted, decent fin. aid, honors stuff. At first it was a safety, but since being rejected from Haverford and waitlisted at Carleton, it's now not unlikely that I'll end up at Skid. Still have to hear from Bates and Bowdoin (and Swarthmore, but they already deferred me so I doubt it).

3.6/3.9 UW/W-9 APs
2320 (720 W)
Decent ECs, idk about my recs, didn't read em.

you applied to Bates and Bowdoin too? awesome! I also applied to those.

I applied to Bates and Bowdoin as well...however, I was already accepted to Colby, which I thought was a much better school than both of those, at least for the Maine schools.

Right now I am struggling with my decision...It looks as though I will either be attending Colby..or Skidmore (and IES, as I was accepted to the London program). Unless of course by some miracle I am accepted to Princeton..which is highly unlikely lol.

Both Skidmore and Colby have their strong points. I just wish it was easier to choose.

Accepted
My Stats:
GPA: 3.425 - but has been > 4.0 this year, and includes a terrible soph yr
Rank: top 25%
SATs: 2040, 1340
SAT IIs: 530,530,710
essay: great
recs: very good
ECs: a ton, but they are very unique - enough to be a hook

Accepted (honors):
GPA: 3.93 (unweighted) Midyear grades: 4.0
Rank: 8/250
School: public school that sucks for people who wanna achieve in life... large percentage go to easy state colleges or the community college... counslers messed up the recomendations and where they sent them (ex. sent common apps to schools thta don't take them)
SAT: 2110 - Writing: 660 Math:730 Reading: 720 11 on my essay
ACT: 30 - 11 on my essay
Recs: one was amazing (made me cry).. the other was too general
Essay: i thought it was good.. wrote about my obsession with biology
Classes: taken hardest my school offers... which isn't much to pick from
AP's: lang: 4 spanish:2

I kinda figured skidmore was going to be one of my safeties since I applied to alot of ivys. But yesterday (which was a sucky day) i got rekjected @ cornell, harvard and duke... and waitlisted at Columbia and Brown. I also applied to College of William and Mary and Bowdoin. I'm still waiting to hear from them. Also accepted at U of Michigan and University of Cal: Santa Cruz.

I'm highly interested in biology (specifically in marine science) but i'm unsure of what Skidmore offers in biology. I know that they participate in the the oceanogrpahy prgram out of Woodhole which really interests me. I kno it;s kind odd for me to look to skidmore. But after living my whole life inthe friggin most conservative and stupid community in michigan i really really wanna go to school out east. so I'm looking for what whole liberal arts experience.

Financial-wise skidmore gave me everything I wanted. But my parents are a little leerly about it... they never heard of it until I applied. Honestly I hadn't either until i practically read one of those huge college guides and skidmore caught my eye.

If anyone had any information that can help me with a decision or what are your thoughts about this. I kno there are some current skidmore students that post on here too. I'm asking you what the school is like. Are there research oppoirtunities for science majors. How about the profs? how qualified are they...

thanks

Savvy:

A Skidmore alumni here willing to provide any answers/feedback I can.

Although I was an Econ major, I do know that the science program is very, very strong. I know quite a number of science majors who felt Skidmore provided them with exactly what they needed to gain admission to some of the best graduate programs in the country.

As for your parents' unfamiliarity with the College-have them read many of the college manuals of the past years, which repeatly place Skidmore as one of the "hot colleges" right now.

Thanks for the info... it's more reassuring
