Decisions

Hey, I'm a white senior from Missouri and I applied back in November. I'm getting really nervous about my chances of getting into Pepperdine (30 ACT, 3.7 unweighted GPA, not too religious, good ecs, good recs), and am considering calling the admissions office to verify that I listed EVERYTHING I'm involved in and didn't leave anything off. Is this a bad move? Also, I've read that Pepperdine is notoriously slow on sending out their acceptance/rejection letters....is this still true, or have they gotten a little better about it? Any and all help is greatly appreciated.

Off topic but why did you decide to apply to Pepperdine University? I applied too, but I dont know that much about the school..

Academics, culture, proximity to LA (internship opportunities), chance to grow as a Christian, and a beautiful campus.

culture? By that do you mean a systemic culture of affluence? I applied also, and would really like the chance to attend, but I must admit that a culture of vanity is present. We had a discussion about Pepperdine and the "rich-kid" culture in my Civics class today (which is odd for being in New Orleans). Am I the only one who fears that Pepperdine may be a bit intimidating for someone who doesn't own a Porsche Boxter?

In an attempt to comment on the primordial thread, I can offer you this information. Both my friend and I applied to Pepperdine. My friend applied via the Priority App. and I through the Regular Decision App. My friend has outstanding stats., E.C.'s, and anything else a college could ever dream of----she hasn't heard anything. I wouldn't sweat anything until you hear that others who applied the same way you did are getting accepted. Good luck!

Thanks for the reply, I know I need to chill out a little...but I'm so excited. On the culture being snobish, I'm sure there are going to be some snobs and some "normal" people. I'm pretty sure this exists on every college campus, though. I'm pretty much guaranteed a culture shock, but I think I will adjust. Where are you from? What are your GPA/tests scores (if you don't mind me asking, I'm just curious...if you don't want to answer, don't worry about it)?

Also, on my listing of liking the "culture," I was meaning more the bigger city-type atmosphere. I'm not a small town kind of guy.

I'm from New Orleans, LA----32 ACT (pepperdine takes your highest subscores from all test dates, not sure if you knew that) 31 is the highest in one sitting, I'm not sure what Pepperdine will configure my GPA to be, 3.65 core uw is what I come up with....pepp also looks for community service, ec's, letters of rec., and your responses to their essays ---do you go to public or private school?

I applied to Pepperdine esp. for priority application i think i have a good chance because they definatly look at ec's and essays more than anything!!! even though my heart is for usc i hav a feeling i might end up at Pepperdine, but i'm going to be so shocked because I go to a high school that's poor and in the ghetto.

It's nice to think that the Pepp. Student body will be very open and inclusive....but it just seems that the reality of the situation is that we will be a little different than the majority of their student body (images of the girl from Laguna Beach keep flashing through my mind). I am optimistic though about the possibility of us all finding our niche.

The more I keep up with this forum the more I feel a visit is necessary----so I can check out the importance of appearances for myself

A visit is definitely sounding like a good idea. Does private/public schooling matter? I attend a public school...

I spoke to some people about Pepperdine if you're a girl and you're looking to date and have fun good luck most of the guys are either too good, taken, or gay!! and i don't think the school matters bluejay

I'm a guy, so I suppose I either need to decide if I'll play the part of being "too good, taken, or gay"...........hmmmmmm... even more decisions.

I would assume that for Pepperdine, going to a Parochial school matters more than at other universities. They gaze happily upon applications glowing with spirituality, and if going to a Catholic school has helped you glow with spirituality then it would favorably impact your application. All things considered, if you are the right fit for pepperdine I doubt they care where you come from.

The only one I may have to worry about is "taken." Isn't homosexuality an issue on campus (being generally conservative/religious)? I had another pretty random question about the financial aid. I'm hoping someone may have an answer....but I've read that you have to enroll (on May 1, of course) not knowing your aid package from the school. This would really suck if true.

somebody go to study in Buenos Aires/Argentina to the pepperdine university?

No, but that sounds really awesome though I heard their studying abroad programs were pretty awesome and they have a program for Japan!!!

well i heard about japan to. but now i live in buenos aires/argentina and i know some people who stay here in the pepperdine university and say that's a very good experience and just like to know if somebody come. well thanks for your reply NerdyUSCgurl

Im a freshman @ pepperdine and i love this place. everything you've heard about the pepperdine stereotype of affluence is all true, and in some respects the people do resemble those on laguna beach more than most other colleges. But you don't have to have a bmw or mercedes to fit in...there are plenty of down to earth, cool people that don't care about what you have and like you for who you are. I would recommend pepp to anyone looking for the best of all worlds: best location, great education, and cool people. BTW, they send you your financial package before May 1 so you have the information before you make your decision.

Let me know if you have any more questions!

Okay, thanks for the financial aid info. I assumed they would have to let you know the financial aid stuff. I know it's been talked about before, but I was curious as to how much the Church of Christ thing plays into admissions? Looking at last year's forum, it seems like it was taken on a very case by case basis. Is the fact that I'm Baptist going to bring me down a lot (I'm not all that religious of a person)? Again, I'm not sure if you can answer this, but I hope you can at least reflect on what percentage of the student body are C of C. Thanks in advance.

dont worry about not being church of christ. in fact, most people here arn't church of christ but belong to other christian denominations. im a catholic along with 1/4 of the student body so dont worry about that. pepp really likes religious people though

thank's alot for easing our worries about the sterotypical Pepp. student, giob700. I originally applied there thinking of a more californian, earthy-vibe....ever since, I've been getting progessively more worried about the typical Pepp. student.
