Decisions

I didn’t get a chance to ask at the meeting. Does anyone know if Otterbein is making decisions has they have in the past? I believe denials and still in consideration letters are sent shortly after the audition. Then final decisions in March.

Thanks

This is the thread from two years ago in my daughter’s audition pool, but I’m not sure if this still the case. <a href=“Any news yet? - Musical Theater Major - College Confidential Forums”>http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/otterbein-university-mt/1292707-any-news-yet-p1.html</a>

So if that’s still the policy, then it’ll be just hearing the final word in March as you suggested above. My daughter auditioned at Chicago Unifieds in February and was called by Teri Devlin with her acceptance on March 5th.

@kksmom5 - Thanks for the link. My D auditioned in December and loved the program and it’s location.

Thank you! I didn’t realize anyone who auditioned later didn’t receive the “still in the pool” letter so I am glad I asked. Now we wait… :-S

Son had a great time during his audition on Monday.

Haha - MTMajorCook, I just noticed the very animated and expressive emoticon! Looks like she’s had some serious training! Best wishes to all of you - at least from this one school you should know the status in just 4 weeks or so!

Re: the earlier post about letters…they didn’t do them last year even for December auditions. I’m pretty sure they dropped that practice when they instituted the prescreen. My son auditioned in December last year and didn’t hear till mid-March. Hope that helps clarify things.

It does help thanks Times!

@times and @abparent…did I tell you guys what we did? We entered through the door close to the street vs the main entrance. Weaved our way through the fine arts building and made a grand entrance down the stairs to the lobby ;)) Later one of the students laughed and said to me "Our audition coordinator was just saying “how do they manage to do it, find the one entrance we don’t want them to use” :))

We are so nosy about poking around schools–probably the only reason we didn’t do something similar was that we had gone through all the buildings on earlier visits! After his audition last year, my son and I went over to the theater and sneaked in, went through all the rooms in the basement, then walked into the almost-dark auditorium so he could hop up and walk around on the stage to see how it felt–one of those “don’t-get-your-hopes-up” moments.

From Elizabeth Doyle at Otterbein:

Decisions are made in mid March and are sent via mail to students. As of now, we have not released anyone from consideration. If and when that does happen, only those students no longer being considered will be notified. In this case, no news is good news! I will let you know as I get updates from the department, but you can expect a definitive yes or no the second or third week of March.

We have gotten some of our best info by veering off the beaten path!

Sorry if me linking the post was confusing . . . Dr. John’s explanation was further into the thread regarding the process. I should’ve just copied and pasted:

"February 2012

The videos we asked everyone to submit this year served the purpose of releasing applicants that we believed would not be in the running at the end of the process. We did release applicants who actually auditioned for us in early December, so that they could move ahead. But we have not released anyone since then. If you auditioned for us on campus in late January, or at one of the unified sites, you are officially still in the pool being considered for admission.

Our last audition is this Saturday, and we will begin choosing the class soon. While I cannot promise final letters by mid-March, that is still our goal.

I hope this helps.

Dr. John"

Did anyone receive an envelope from Otterbein’s Office of Admissions and Financial Aid today? My daughter got one but I’ve been instructed not to open it and I can’t see through the envelope, (No shame in my game lol). If anyone received one, please let me know what it is. She’s at musical rehearsal until late tonight, and I can’t stand waiting .

Darn her…I won’t get home until 5 to see if we got one but…I’m on the case DoReMi!

Wow DoReMiMom! Are there any intense light sources available in your house? Mail hasn’t arrived here yet, but I’ll let you know. This brings up a question for me. Son applied after he passed the pre-screen, probably in November, and he hasn’t heard if he was academically accepted. Does the academic acceptance come with the audition decision? I can’t tell status on the portal, and my son never checked to see if they received his application etc.

So D raced home to check mail…It was a regular Admission bulk mailing talking about the MT program and Otterbein and welcoming her to apply. ARE YOU KIDDING ME??? I SO wish the admissions dept and perf arts depts were more in sync…especially during Feb and March. I’ll be surprised if I can make it to April 1 without being committed.

Oy!! Nada from Otterbein in the mail. Now we are all forewarned by your false alarm!

8-}

I can see on the portal that all the information was received but nothing re: academic acceptance.

Well, he did get a postcard from Otterbein regarding the FAFSA Priority deadline. Maybe I’m not looking in the right place?? Is it the VIP log in? All I see there is a check list, but I thought it was a generic example to follow. They are all checked.
