Decisions?

Congratulations to everyone admitted to OSU! My daughter was as well. My other daughter already attends and I just spent the day with her yesterday on campus and out shopping (much needed break for her from her finals studying!). I have to say, I really love Ohio State and you all will too! Congrats again!

@texas25‌ I applied end of August. Got rejected beginning of december

@texas25‌ I heard they only will look at the school your major is in (ex. Business school) and some may be harder than others. I applied into journalism in which I got rejected.

@texas25 But I am OOS and even though they claim they don’t give preference to residence, it kind of is expected for a state school to have at least 2/3 more in state people than OOS people. And I think that is exactly what Ohio state has, 2/3 in state, 1/3 out of state

Congratulations to all admitted. Momofspringter I love OSU as well, in fact just bought tickets to see the Wexner Family Masters exhibition at the Wexner Center. Will see it just before we pick up our daughter this week.

Does anyone here know how to the Morrill scholarship distinctions works? I know there are suppose to be interviews, but I wanted to know if the people who receive excellence( or the out of state equivalent) are then contacted for an interview if chosen. I am not sure how it works, so I wanted to see if anyone here knows.

I got the Excellence scholarship on the 12th( full tuition) and wanted to know if I had a chance for the Morrill Distinctions scholarship. Thanks in advance! If anyone responds, please tag me in the post so that I am notified.

Congratulations Jalaquan on receiving the Excellence. My daughter was awarded this scholarship last year and there was not an interview for that level. I was not aware of the possibility that once awarded the Excellence you might still be eligible for the Distinction. Maybe someone else can weigh in on that point. I do know that you can call the Office of Diversity and Inclusion (ODI) and ask some questions. They were quite helpful last year when my daughter had questions.

@OSUmom2018 what is that? I looked it up. Is it an art exhibit? My daughter, the one just accepted to OSU, is an artist and would probably love that! (she is going for engineering though). My other daughter is a 3rd year and was on the OSU women’s choir her first year but didn’t do it her second year after her course load got too rigorous (biochem major). I would move to Columbus if given the option. Love the area, love the city and the campus. And of course Easton Town Center. Who could not love a shopping mall of that magnitude?

@‌momofsprinter
I know, Columbus is great. I love it too…
Wish I could move there!
Yes there is a special exhibit at the Wexner Center for Arts. The Wexner family has loaned some works of art from their personal collection, including a Picasso, Degas, de Kooning, Rothenberg, and more. It is going to end on DEC 31, so your daughter will need to see it soon if she wants to see it. Tickets are free for students and only $8 for non students. There are not many chances to see this kind of collection for free or low cost.

@OSUmom2018 oh wow!! I will need to check this out. Wish I had known on Saturday when I was there, could’ve done it then. Might have to make another trip over the Christmas break to go check this out.  Thanks!

@Momofsprinter, yes darn you could have seen it then. If you want to go, you have to get a ticket and reserve a time online. They do take walk ins but you are not guaranteed a spot. But it may not be too crowded over the break… If you go to parent weekend next year, there are some other neat things. I loved seeing the Wetland research center and the OSU Dairy farm, the planetarium, the boating on the Olentangy, etc… Also the OSU symphony is excellent. I highly recommend attending a performance.

We’ve never done any of that stuff! Ha! Usually when I visit my daughter, I take her out for a couple really yummy meals and shop. She loves to shop and so do I! She has explored just about every area the bus will take her while she has been at OSU.

My daughter has been all over Columbus on the bus as well. There is so much to do there compared to the small town we are from…if you go to Parent weekend you can attend all of the activities I described.

@OSUmom2018 when does parent weekend fall around?

@college67 The OSU Parent and Family Relations website indicates a tentative date:
October 2 - 4, 2015 (tentative) for Parent weekend. If your child is attending OSU, you can sign up for emails from Parent and Family Relations, they send out weekly emails to keep parents up to date on important information.

@OSUmom2018, thank you!!! That page is very informative.

You are welcome, I highly recommend that parents of OSU students sign up for the emails from Parents and Family Relations. Oh, there is also a Sibs and Kids weekend next March. My daughter had a tutoring business when she was in high school, and some of her students have already asked to come to that weekend, they are very excited to attend.

Parents weekend is fun! Except again, all we do is shop at Easton. And eat on campus (gotta use up the block money so it doesn’t go to waste) Ha! I stayed in the Blackwell one year but couldn’t get in another year so I stayed in the Marriott next to Target. Love the Blackwell Inn but make reservations early, especially during parents weekend because it gets booked up!

Thanks for the wonderful feedback!! We toured last summer and loved Ohio. We cannot wait for my son to attend Ohio. We just love it there  Were from Charlotte N.C.
