I was accepted today and Clemson truly is my top choice but its a little expensive I also got into UMass Amherst and was given some money can’t decide whether the money outweighs the fact that Clemson is a better school or if it really is a better school just need some advice on what to do
Are either of these schools instate? I would certainly consider how far away a school is from your house. (Travel is pricey as well as OOS tuition) It also depends on your major, UMass is strong in the STEM and Business fields and I don’t know too much about Clemson to be honest.
US News lists UMass as #76 in the US and Clemson is #62. I would say their close enough to come down to preference, there is no clear decision here. (They likely have a similar level of academics)
Can you give us actual numbers so that we can estimate whether either one is worht the cost?
(tuition, fees, room, board) - (scholarships, grants) = $
Do not count loans or anything else.
Also, did you get Honors College at any of them?
This decision really comes down to the price difference. If Clemson is so expensive that it will put your family into serious debt, then your decision will be easy. If Clemson is only a little bit more expensive than Mass, this choice gets a little more difficult. Can you see yourself at Mass’s campus, and if you do end up going there, will you be happy? Unless you really hate Mass, it might be the better option here, considering Clemson isn’t exponentially that much greater than Mass is.
Thanks since most people have said Clemson isn’t exceptionally better I’m leaning towards UMass
UMass starts at 39,000 and they gave me 6 so their total is 33 right now.
Clemson is 41,000 and offered me no money I filed fafsa for both and am currently waiting
8K more a year? please, unless your parents are so wealthy that 8K more towards their retirement fund wouldn’t make much difference, go to UMass. They’re both fine schools. It’s what you will DO there that matters much more than the school you attend. Take advantage of all either school has to offer and you will go far. Slouch thru four years and you can be just like many of the other graduates in your class.
Ya, that my look small but that’s gonna be close to 35K $ after you finish you degree… assuming you finish on time.
Are you in-state for either school? If not your chances of getting any additional $ except the option of a $5.5K loan are basically zero. You’ve already got the merit award from UMass and Clemson didn’t give you anything for that. Need based aid from public Us will generally only go to in-state students.
I am not instate for either considering that UMass is a much better choice don’t know why I thought Clemson was so much better I think I’ve made my decision thanks for all ur help
