So… do schools mostly notify students of the MT decision through email, phone call, portal etc?? Just wondering cause I know D has these portals for some schools but not all of them and the ones she has now are just academic general school online accounts and not really theatre specific so wondering because the other day D looked at her account for one school to see if anything was listed as missing from her application & there was her academic acceptance just listed on there and she didn’t even know that she was accepted! Lol. We have been assuming everyone sends old fashioned letters…
There are threads from past years that noted method of notification. I couldn’t find them, but maybe emsdad will come to the rescue?
I wish all schools still did acceptance letters (even though the speed of electronic is great). Nothing beats seeing the big envelope…
Like everything, each school does it differently. It also may change from year to year (ex. a school that used to send letters via snail mail, that now notifies via email, or a school that used to notify via email now just uploading to the portal).
The BFA acceptance/rejection if separate from general academic admission can also come in many forms. Some sent letters either way. Others sent emails. Others called the accepted students, but sent rejections via mail.
Every school is different (as noted above).
We had all of the above, snail mail, portal, email, and phone call.
Same @stagedoormama. Although we got more snail mail with my S (2018) than with my D (2020). It makes sense to use portals/email save the money but I enjoyed the “guess what’s in the envelope” game (although not much of a mystery since YES tended to come in big packages)!
So far this year, D has received one academic acceptance when she checked a portal to see if the school had received her transcript; and one via a phone call tonight-which was a lovely surprise (the fact that they would take the time to call, and ask if she had any questions.) It’s those artistic notifications that are gonna be the nail biters…
Yes, in the old days, you stalked the mail carrier. These days, you constantly refresh your portals and watch CC for updates from others. It can really drive you batty! Our D learned of every admission via portal except one, Michigan. That was a phone call. One rejection, Pace, came via snail mail. Everything else was portal first, then email or snail mail later.
Oh you “young” parents. I’m afraid the skill of reading contents of envelopes held up to the light will become a lost art.
Regarding the portals… I’m assuming this means the online account that D opened with the school when she applied? She doesn’t have one for several common app schools though. Or do some schools tell you to open that up after you’re accepted academically? "Like with Baldwin Wallace she applied via common app but doesn’t have any account on their website to check anything…
