I just got in!
im really suprised i got it so soon ; i applied in late december ( i forget exactly when, but around dec 22) and dont have amazing stats or anything (32 ACT, 3.5ish UW GPA [but at a really hard school & with some aps/honor])

has anyone else heard?! eeeeeek im so excited

also does anyone know what order they do it in? i have a friend who applied a month earlier than me, to the same schools, and hasnt heard yet.. weird.

My guess is they take the top of the field and admit them immediately, and probably likewise they deny the lower applicants. Then they take the middle group and compare them more closely, especially taking into account midyear reports.

I'd say your 32 ACT helped you out a lot, that's a terrific score. May I ask which schools you applied to?

sure. i applied to faculty of arts (accepted), and interfaculty -- ba & bs (rejected -- "below admissions minima"). my science ACT score was very low (25) and i have a few Bs in math/science classes so I guess that's why i was rejected to the joint program. Although I would have studied Environmental science/policy, so I feel like my precalc & chem grades arent that relevant. oh well, ill stil have lots of choices :)

Canadian Universities, including McGill are not hard to get into, but once your in the academic environment is VERY rigourous, and a lot of people drop out after first year.

just our of curiosity - what us schools would you compare it to in terms of academic rigor/excellence (i know this is a ridiculously subjective question.. but j/w)

matty- i saw your stats post, and have no idea about chances - but best of luck, & let me know what happens

I'm sure every US high school student says this, but I think I could handle the course load. I stayed with a friend at McGill for a couple days and it made me realize how much "free" time there is-it's insane. This year (senior year) I took three AP classes, two of which are very easy for me (calc and stat). But I also took AP english, which is probably the hardest thing I've ever done. I'm not a "weak" reader (well, maybe slightly), but I'm not a very fast reader. We typically have 50 pages of reading a night on one book, usually an older title from Britain. There are daily assignments related to that book, and a large paper due at its conclusion. Then, once a month we have a seperate assigned book with a paper due. This is an "outside book." For a student who excels in English this could be a breeze, but it's frankly painful for me. What it did teach me (the hard way; so many all-nighters before I figured this out) is time management. Admittedly, senioritis has begun to take its toll, but I feel I will be motivated in a completely new way in college.

I think a lot of people make the mistake of going into college expecting animal house. The problem with McGill is that Montreal offers twice the distraction of animal house, without accepting 1.0 GPAs.

ridonkulous: Relax....those scores are almost identical to my d.'s and she got into the arts&sciences program which is very selective. She also got into arts.
Each faculty makes their own admissions decisions, so some may be earlier than others. You should be all set, but confirm your school sent mid-year grades.

"just our of curiosity - what us schools would you compare it to in terms of academic rigor/excellence (i know this is a ridiculously subjective question.. but j/w)"

McGill, U of T, Queen's and Carleton (pretty sure most of u.s. residents never heard of that one) are on par with most top 25 schools in terms of academic rigor, at least IMO.

honied- my school goes by trimesters so my school sent the first trimester grade, but i think they wait to send the midyr report till after second trimester (march) but im not sure. and they sent me an email saying the deicision was ready, and to sign in to see it

My guess is they use your first trimester as an equivalent to a mid-year report, which is why they were able to review your application so early. This wait is killing me.. I need to get off of these forums or something and forget about college for the next two months!

Congratulations! This is killing me as well. I submitted my app in November and thought that I would hear from McGill soon since they are rolling. But now I realize that my mid-year report is going to get there in March, which means that applying early doesn't. help.
