Decisions

Allison-

Oh, yes, I've been to the blog. I check it for updates every day--I'm a pathetic information junkie.

Thanks for the info, and congrats on getting to this point. Good luck on the CWs--They sounds like an absolute blast!

Darn. Can't get those subliminal message HTML code thingies working.... ;)

As for the "waiting twice" thing, it really isn't to be mean. It's just with such a small class, it's really essential that Olin gets to see you in person, interacting with people who may be your peers and in your interview. Just a regular application doesn't necessarily show who you are, though it does give a pretty good look. It isn't something you should dwell on.

So, when, exactly, we should expect the decisions?

Spiral,

I don't think anyone believes they are doing to it be mean, lol. To be honest, I love the way that Olin does it as I feel it allows the applicant to show his or herself in a way that an application can't. Even the formal interviews Ive had for other schools cant measure up to the amount that cw lets the adcoms get to know the applicant.

Although I'm sure I would be a lot less worried about having to make both cuts if it were a school that weren't my first choice

In addition to the actual benefits to the selection process that has been mentioned above, I think that partial notification next week is a good thing. Let's say Olin had a more 'normal' admissions model: decisions went out in one big batch right before April 1st. The majority of us would still worry for the next 1.5-2 months about decisions. As depressing as it sounds, ~80% of us (most likely me included) will now have one month to 'get over' Olin and develop a new favorite just in type for our other decisions.

Good luck to everyone!

Yeah good luck all, even though decisions most likely already made.

I'd like to know ASAP because I have to tell my supervisor at my part-time job that I won't be in for work during the Feb CW weekend. They need to know 21 days in advance to prepare the schedule. Online intimation would definitely have helped.
I guess if the FEDEX people leave a note on our door (they don't deliver if no one signs for it), we can assume good news and I can call my supervisor!
Any way, most likely by Tuesday we will know assuming they overnight the decisions on Monday (Feb 5).

beantowngal,

There are two candidate's weekends: one on the last weekend of February and one on the first weekend in March, so you may get invited to either one. You CAN switch in the case of a conflict with one of the weekends, but Admissions would prefer if you could stick with your original weekend.

I'm not sure when the letters are going out, but according to Allison's blog it will be sometime during the first week of February. If you don't hear from them soon enough, I would try calling your supervisor anyway to explain your situation and work something out.

Good luck!

Just an update for all of you

There was a problem with my transcript that I just noticed (!!) that had my transcript showing I took a class twice and didn't get credit (!!), long story short my guidance councilor called Olin to let them know and she made it sound like they aren't quite done looking over everyone (but close) and that we would all know by mid next week.

So yeah, its getting close (follows Allison's advice Breathes)

I can't believe I just saw that on my transcript... I reeeaaaaallly hope that didn't through off my admissions chances...

ehiunno, I would not worry too much about that mistake on your transcript throwing off your chances. Olin reads through everything. One little mistake of a class listed wrong is not a big deal. So just keep breathing! And good luck!

I think the point of ehiunno's post was more to the effect of "they're still working on it" not so much "FREAK OUT!"

But yes, I know that most people don't consider it mean. I loved CW. There were just a few comments on this thread that seemed a bit bitter about it, and I wanted to clarify.

Good luck, all!

I had emailed Charlie Nolan, Dean of Admissions, about an issue on my app, he replied and said decisions would be online TOMORROW! I'm very excited and nervous!

online??

Just on our page or what? Ah! ....ah!.....AH!!!

....ah!

just one more

AH!!

alright i think i got that out. I'm so nervous!

lol

really? how do we check them?

GH: I'm not trying to discount your information, and I completely agree that online decisions would be pretty nice, but I doubt it is going to happen. The blog specifically mentioned notification via mail.
From Allison's blog:

Oh and as old-fashioned as it may seem, you will be receiving your notification by snail mail

[/quote]
Online or in an envelope, I can hardly wait!

this is exactly what he said:

Samiur,

Wait to learn about Candidates’ Weekend invitation, which are available tomorrow, before proceeding. Decisions are available online tomorrow.

All the best.

Charles S. Nolan, Ph.D.

Vice President of External Relations and Dean of Admission

Olin College of Engineering

Maybe plans have changed..... finding out tomorrow would be much better than agonizing about it all weekend XD

Where do we find out?

Well it's technically tomorrow already in Boston... nothing at apply.olin.edu yet.

AAAAAAAARRRRRGHHH!

Err, still another 14 minutes before it's 'tomorrow' in Boston.
