I just got accepted today to the Honors College as a marketing major.

Is anyone else accepted/considering going?

I was also accepted. I don't know if I should go there though, on one hand they are giving me fantastic fin aid and merit money, but on the other hand I don't know if Pace is the best college. Does it have a good reputation in the business world?

You're right about Pace not having too much prestige, and I'm sure you have other great options with the financial aid they're giving you. To be honest, I've heard mixed things about their reputation in NYC. It seems as though the business programs are the strongest, but like yourself, I'm wondering how much weight they have.

All things considered, I'm probably going there unless I get similar aid from the other places I've applied (doubt it though). And even though I used to be so hung up on school prestige being a key indicator of career success, I've heard people say that it "only matters at the first job" a hundred times over. Still skeptical, I was pretty much lured in by their co-op options that would help to get us in the door. That coupled with the fact that it is in a great part of Manhattan is furthering my desire to go. I have friends who are pretty critical of the school's reputation and suggest that I go elsewhere. I'm kind of following my own conscience on this one due to the opportunities in NYC. (I've been stuck on living there, anyway.)

I've visited and there's just something about the school; I hope it's what I'm making it out to be. I went to some dinner last weekend too for the Honors College and that went really well, too. Kind of nervous about meeting people, though, being from Delaware.

I think we are pretty much on the same page. No one at my school has ever heard of "Pace University", but I am also starting to think that the name doesn't really matter. It does seem to have a nice business program and the internships and things sound great.

Unlike you, however, I would be attending the Pleasantville campus. I don't think I could handle the city life and the lack of dorms. It's only a couple of hours, if that, to NYC on the train from Pleasantville.

I am just worried I won't fit in with the typical Pace student, but my parents are pushing that I go to Pace because of the fantastic financial aid.

I wasn't able to go to the dinner last week, I wish I could have, but it was short notice and I had to work. How was the dinner? Did you get a good feel for the type of students and faculty?

Don't stress about "fitting in", because you'll be anxious and nervous wherever you go. I'm trying to convince myself that. :)

But yeah, that dinner really was short notice. I'm surprised there were as many people there as there were. I was kind of nervous about going, but I'm definitely glad that I went. The prospective students were all really attractive...not that it makes a difference, but it was true nonetheless! They also seemed very friendly. However, I spent a majority of my time talking to faculty and current students. The dean of admissions even came around and talked to me for ten minutes or so. She as well as all of the professors that I talked to were great. For the dinner portion of it, they seated us at small tables with professors in our field. Talking to them gave me great insight on the functions of the school and other schools in the area. All the professors I spoke with were very excited upon coming to Pace from schools like Fordham, Boston U, etc. And I'd say about 80% of the kids there were going for business. So I can definitely say that attending the dinner did not hurt my opinion at all.

I got into the Honors College, but I am fairly certain that I will not be attending. The main--if not only--reason for this is that i finally decided on Music Education as a major, which Pace does not offer. Otherwise, I'd probably go there, as I loved the school and almost everything about it. The dinner was fun though. :) Congrats to everyone else who made it!
