Should one wait for the decision dates in April for private colleges before planning to enroll in a state school like UF which has a Feb 15 annoucement.

You could. UF doesn’t need a final response from you until May 1st. (I think.) Unless UF is your first choice, you can hold off your decision.

wouldn’t that effect my chances of getting in school housing though?

yes, because its a first come first serve basis where you immediately have to request on your preference on dorm, style, or room mate.
In any case, if UF is not your first choice, stick to wating on April and make a decision then.

You don’t have to even wait for an acceptance to apply for housing (or so it says in the letter i got). I would go check the website.

Danny_125, you have UF confused with FSU in terms of housing. UF’s priority was decided by how soon after you applied for admission did you apply for housing. However, FSU’s priority is determined on your sprint to apply online after you read “accepted”

anyhow, UF housing is considered “first come first serve.” If he waits that long, he won’t get the best dorm if he doesnt decides which dorm he wants early in the game.
