Decisions

I have a question for those who were waitlisted.

D was also waitlisted to Rice. Argh. One more decision to make. Her letter says that they want her to know that she is among a small group who will receive "priority consideration" for available spaces May1.

Do all the wait list letters say that? Thanks for any info.

mine didnt.

My letter didn't say anything like that....:(
BUt I'm happy that I got waitlist...I thought I would be rejected.

Wow. Thanks guys. sorry, though. really. :(

That's strange. Rice claims that their waitlist is not ranked... that seems like some sort of ranking system to me...

Did anyone who was deferred ID get in RD?

Got waitlisted. I thought I'd get rejected for sure. I've been waitlisted to Washington University, Carleton College, Bowdoin COllege and Rice University....haha. So in total I got 4 acceptances, 4 waitlists, 2 rejections.

I got 1270 on my SATs, pretty amazed they waitlisted me instead of flat out rejection. Got very high IB grades though...made the mistake of sending my SATs to Bowdoin..:(

does anyone have an idea how priority consideration works? is this like top 10, 20, 50% of waitlisted applicants?

ACcepted in NJ...

I'm seriously considering to go...!!!!

ANYone going to the Owl Weekend from NJ??

IslandMom, I just looked through my sons Rice info from last year. He was also waitlisted, however, I forgot about the "priority consideration" that you mentioned. His letter also stated that. He eventually received a phone call on May 11 offering him acceptance. Now he's a very happy freshman living in Will Rice College!

Congrats to those who have been accepted and good luck and hang in there for those who were waitlisted. It's worth the wait.

Hey guys!

I was waitlisted too! Do you know what percentage of people on the waitlist are eventually admitted? Also, do you know if Rice receives 2nd semester grades? I hope my senior slacking doesn't do me in!

Shwack - Rice does recieve your final grades... start studying, perhaps...

:)

I also got priority waitlisted. Can someone please tell me how the wait list thing works? Like do I accept a spot at another school and just hope that I somehow squeeze in via the priority waitlist? I really have no idea how this works...

ditto dreamdragon's question. I also got priority waitlisted from Alabama. Was previously deferrred from early action. Ho hum. Rice was my first choice also.

got ACCEPTED!! wooohooo!!
stats : SAT1: 1400 (800M 600V)
750/710/610
so happy right now, will most probably go to Rice!!

congrats to everyone else... and everyone waitlisted dont loose hope!! would love to see all of you at Rice. :)

ok I will definitely attempt to resurrect my studying habits that have long since disappeared without a trace. =) Does anyone know whether waitlisted students can still visit the campus and stay overnight? When do the majority of waitlisted people hear from Rice by? Do you think I should wait to hear back from Rice before I visit?

I really wish we could find out how many people total were waitlisted. Would they release that type of information over the phone?

The wait list letter says to go ahead and accept the offer of admission to your other school, send in the enrollment deposit to that alternate school and then, when and if Rice later accepts you, you can withdraw your application from that other school. That way you're covered if you don't get off the wait list. D's letter says that they will contact her at the end of May with an update on the waiting list.

The last line says we will hope for the opportunity to contact you with better news in the future. :) What a nice, gentle rejection. Instead of just being told she was put on the wait list, they say " you have been selected as an alternate for the class of 2009"

Oh, and thanks for the encouragement, Peariceparent. D is now in the position of choosing between three schools. She's sending in the card to definitely keep this option open.
