General Comments: i was pretty disheartened. I have been taking the most rigorous courses at my school, and the results of my effort has ultimately lead to my low GPA. However, my test scores are excellent. By the end of my senior year, I would have taken 16 AP classes and about 8 IB classes. I also submitted an online art portfolio.

That does sound like a rather impressive application, bubba... must have been absurdly competitive this year.

Decision: Accepted

[] Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected:
[/ul]General Comments: *

How did you go from a perfect NLE to a 540 Latin SAT II? Was it that much harder? I'm getting ready to take the test in June.

does HMC always offer money for a plane ticket to visit? i got one, but just wondering if that's standard/typical.

Decision: Waitlisted

Objective:[ul]
[] SAT I: 2330 (800 Math, 800 CR, 730 Writing)
[] ACT: 34 (I think? 36 Math and 36 Science, I forget the others)
[] SAT II: 800 (Chemistry), 800 (MathII), 730 (Spanish)

[] Rank: 3/340 (but in line to be valedictorian... it's a strange system)

[] Course Load: College Literature class, Differential Equations, AP Spanish Literature, Anthropology, AP US Government, AP Computer Science AB, AP Psychology
[] Awards: Two-time AIME qualifier (well, three now, got a 5 and was actually disappointed), AP Scholar with Distinction, National Merit Scholar, math + science competition things, etc.

[/ul]Subjective:[ul]
[] Extracurriculars: 4 years of Math Club, three years of leadership, a huge club and a big undertaking, Science Club, Knowledge Bowl, some tennis (but I suck), started Chemistry Club and failed junior year, started Philosophy Club this year and enjoyed great success, motivated school to host North American Computational Linguisitics Olympiad (so awesome!), three years of marching band (stopped due to respiratory illness).
[] Job/Work Experience: None, heh
[] Volunteer/Community service: several dozens of hours of peer tutoring at my school, youth court, wrote supplemental texts to our notorious math text books (and actually received anonymous praise in one of my classes for their helpfulness). Election poll worker.
[] Summer Activities: Took part in selective 6-week NW math camp and excelled. Visited HMC, before school started, too <_<
[] Essays: I tried =\ I can't remember them, which may be bad, but I felt confident enough.
[] Teacher Recs: (didn't read) One from Philosophy Club adviser/English teacher, in whom I have absolute faith, gave "highest recommendation." One from Math Club adviser, who I imagine was really aggressive in recommending me.
[] Counselor Rec: (didn't read) He says it was strong. I don't know him too well, so probably not too specific/enlightening.
[] Interview: Seemed to go just alright. Kind of made it awkward because I had to talk about being too sick to do things and having to help my mom, whose leg never recovered after being broken.
[/ul]Other[ul]
[] State: WA
[] School Type: suburban, nice
[] Ethnicity: Caucasian
[] Gender: Male
[] Income Bracket: middle/high
[] Hooks: Hmm, dealt with personal issues? Being Western European in a class that is otherwise dominated by Asians/Eastern Europeans? >.>; Probably none, really.
[/ul]Reflection[ul]
[] Strengths: extracurriculars, grades (highest grade in every class but one or two for the last two years), teacher recommendations, well-rounded
[] Weaknesses: not athletic, no work experience...
[li] Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: No endearing traits/deficiencies (I don't think poor health/lack of athleticism counts =(). I probably failed at the diversity test, in the application and in the interview (how do you answer "Do you like diversity?" beyond the obvious "yes"? So awkward <,<)
[/li]

[/ul]General Comments:

I'm honestly very disappointed. Enough so that I was motivated to register (albeit not until I was on break) so that I could post =p I seem to be having poor luck with colleges... and life <,< Well, I can live with undergraduate obscurity, whether or not I get off the list.
