Waitlisted.

To be honest, I’m a little surprised. I had more-than-decent stats; I applied to W & L as a safety school, and I have already been accepted to several much more prestigious schools.

Does anyone else feel surprised like I do? I’m wondering if there is something similar going on here to what happened with Tulane University.

I mean the acceptance rate was 17% which probably made it one of the hardest liberal arts schools to get into this year…also may I add that the school takes the “optional” interview very seriously…I offer my condolences

The funny this is that I DID interview and received about 4-5 calls from them throughout the admissions process, and still got waitlisted. Not only that, I also applied via free application, so I almost felt as though they were trying to get me there. Haha, oh well.

ElBlufer: I did the “optional” interview too, along with the area reception. My interviewer told me that I was not the “normal” W&L applicant, but he really wanted to see me at the orientation. I also applied via their free app, so I thought I would definitely get in.

I think acceptance has a lot to do with legacies.

I got in - finally got in somewhere after 4 waitlists in a row from other LACs.
Stats:
2350 SAT, 800/800/730 SAT IIs, 3.8 UW GPA, decent ECs

I didn’t do an interview, but I was CONSTANTLY getting mail and e-mail from them. Seriously, I probably got some form of correspondence from them at least once every week or so for a while. I was offered the free application, but I applied with the Common App anyway since I had already started it.

Part of the reason I am so surprised at being waitlisted, I guess, is that they seemed to be genuinely trying to recruit me. I mean, why waste all that time and paper if you aren’t seriously interested in the applicant?

all that mail means is that you had good psat scores (or something like that). Don’t flatter yourself. I received frequent emails from schools like cal tech who just saw that I had a good psat math scores. If they saw my app, they’d realize I have minimal interest in pursuing either math or science in college & there is no way I’d be accepted.
Don’t under estimate w&l. Their acceptance rate has dropped 10% between last year and the year before b/c of johnson, and their ranking will be getting better and better in the next few years. While you may have thought it was a safety, it probably was more of a good match. If your stats are as good as you say they are, the adcom probably realized you weren’t really interested since (I am assuming) you didn’t take the time to apply for the johnson

I hope this provides a potential explanation for you
