@ricochet@Harmon@ais2014-Hi guys i have got a few offers but im looking for aid and no news from that front. only wpi has offered me a 50% tution waiver. even i have been waitlisted from wash u.

1 day to go…@surabhi, you mean Washington St Louis? I know that university really likes putting students on waitlist…It is rumored that 3/4 of its applicants are on that list. As for Bucknell, I also requested financial aid…Hope I won’t be rejected because of that.

@intl students
i have heard that once ur application credentials meet the standards of the school…most of the colleges provide u with an offer of financial aid that can be negotiated further…atleast that was the case for me with coe college

and once again best of luck for the decision!!

The reason I applied to Bucknell was because our school has got a couple of people on full rides there. The last time someone got a full ride was for the class of 2012. So there are chances Harmon. But u are from China right? So, I assume you face fierce competition from applicants from China itself in order to secure a spot in the university.

I think Bucknell tends to increase diversity by admitting students from various countries. Going through the profile of class of 2013, I realized it had admitted 70-80 international students from 500 odd applicants. Here again, I can make an assumption that it admits one student (maybe two or three in places like China and India where the applicant pool is rather large) from each country provided he/she meets the university standards of course. Also, it is important to factor financial aid in the admissions decision. Well, these are just my assumptions and they might be wholly wrong. I hope you get what I mean.

Yes, @ Surabhi, Washu has a ginormous wait-list. This is to keep their rankings high (as I had read somewhere). This certainly is cruel in a way. It takes a miracle to get admitted off the wait-list at Washu.

But guys if you are worrying - don’t. I know of someone from school who got into Yale after getting rejected from all her universities and wait-listed from one. This was such a pleasant surprise for her. Miracles do happen.

So don’t worry- just be hopeful(@Harmon). If you can’t get anywhere this time (& I am not saying you won’t!), do well on the SATs, get some more solid ECs on the list, write winning essays and apply next year. You might just get into your dream school with a hefty amount of financial aid because you now know how the application process exactly works. It’s like a machine. The more you know how to oil it, the smoother it runs.

Anyway, this is what I am thinking right now. I thought I should share it with you guys. I too applied for a lot of financial aid. So, I am very uncertain about my decisions. But be positive, everything works out eventually :)

@ricochet: Thanks for you kind words~~^. Yep, I am from China and I am actually not that pessimistic…An alumnus from Bucknell opened a thread at a bbs like this in China, and he said this year Bucknell have accepted many(yes, many, he said more than 50…I’m not sure whether he meant Chinese or internationals…the tragic fact is that I think 99% it should be international students) Chinese students. So probably I do have a chance^_^( I only applied 10k and I’m quite satisfied with my essay…probably it’s the best of all my essays). Once again, thank you rico, and good luck to all of us!!

the following message came from bucknell’s assistant director of admissions as a reply to address my query regarding financial aid for intl students. i hope this can be of reference-

All admitted international students with financial aid need receive a financial aid package at the time of the decision, or, in other words, the financial aid part is factored into an admissions decision. The student receives a notification regarding the decision and financial aid at the same time.

Most of our international students apply for financial aid, so it is quite competitive to receive. When we make an admissions decision, we consider students’ grades, standardized test scores, the quality of the written essays, service and leadership skills, letters of recommendation, the world region that the student comes from, and the ability to contribute financially to his/her education. This year, we will have about 50 positions for international students within the class of 900.

Please let me know if this information is helpful to you and let me know if you any other questions.

Best regards,

So 50 refers to international students. Ok, let’s just wait one more day and then we will know whether we are included or not.

My assumptions seem correct Harmon…:P

Very excited because I was accepted into capped program (Biomedical Engineering); Received a nice scholarship/grant, but probably will not be able to attend because it still leaves $38K to pay…needed to be closer to $20K. Will probably attend state flagship for less than 1/2 the cost. Still hoping for a miracle.

Decisions are online.
