Hey, so....I originally thought HWS decisions would be mailed April 1st...but I got mine in the mail today.

At least....it told me I received the Faculty Scholarship (15k/yr). Didn't sound like much of an acceptance letter, so I'm a little confused. hah.

I'm sure I was truly accepted, I just don't know if this is normal. Anyone else receive decisions yet??

Actually the April 1st deadline is when you’re supposed to have received all college decisions. Sometimes colleges send out merit information to desirable applicants earlier than the general notification letters. My son, a first-year this year, got notified early as well with some merit money, so I’d say you’re in! Congratulations!

Congratulations, frklgs! Where are you from? My son, a first-year, is hosting a first-year friend from Burma at our house this week for spring break. We’re having a great time!

Mossesgetch, I’m so sorry. You may be a bit dejected for a while, but I hope the acceptances you receive from other colleges will soon have you feeling better, once you fully explore what their opportunities are. There are many wonderful colleges and there will be the right one for you.

I’m with you CarolynB. Some things are not meant to be, I’m a little fatalistic I guess. This might be a tough year to “require a lot of aid” since there are so many that need assistance.

Big thick envelope came in the mail for S today…cannot wait 'til he gets home! Hopefully the finaid letter is in the envelope because that will be key!

Yup he came home immediately when I told him it was on the table. It’s gonna be a nail biter with this one. I predict lots of sleepless nights for he and for my H and I. There was a grant not great, not bad…just enough to give me sleepless nights. It’s now equal in cost at least next year with what we would pay at his other choice college but significantly more money in general so it’s abit scary for year 2, 3 and 4. Our EFC was artifically high this year because of a severance package even with 2 kids in college but still…a nail biter. I loved Hobart…it was my “pick” for my son so I need to keep my mouth shut and let him make the decision. This college is actually a much better choice for him academically and has a stronger curriculum in the areas he is interested in…

Love1016, congratulations on your acceptance! I hope the award will help keep HWS attractive to you!

Momofthreeboys, congratulations on your son’s acceptance as well! It’s tough to lay low as a parent, but what you can do, in a very low-key way, is ask the kinds of questions he needs to ask himself to discover what is the appropriate school for him. And frankly, you and your husband need to ask yourselves about the money. If your son is really interested in Hobart, I suppose it wouldn’t hurt to ask the HWS financial aid office if there’s anything more they can do to help out, given that you have two others in college. We did that last year for another choice for our son, and they did sweeten the deal, but Hobart still won out financially. You don’t get anything for not asking!

I also encourage you to visit the school for the admitted students open house, whenever that’s scheduled. Good luck! Let us know what happens!

Oh yes, this is not our first time through! He’s “processing” right now! We pay pretty much full freight for S1 out of state public but there’s still a big difference…those NE schools are so very expensive and knowing what the costs are is fearsome since no one knows from year to year how the school will package up the aid. But the good news is S1 called today and after meeting with his advisor this morning is on track to graduate next May. We’re talking about returning to Hobart for the accepted student weekend since it’s been a year since S2 visited. It will be a short month with the kids spring break coming up.
