U of M has processed my application on Nov 2nd and I am wondering when they will let me know about my decision (out-of-state). Also, what's the deal with the business school now? I know the HS class of 2006 can apply directly to the business school, how what about this year's graduating class.. would we have to apply sophmore year or what?

Hey johnst, how did you apply directly to the business school? I applied to the LSA, since I could not apply to the business school.
To answer your question, I think you should hear in another month.

Johnst, it usually takes 4-6 weeks. So you should hear back from Michigan after Thanks Giving but before Christmas. Good luck and keep us posted. As for when you can apply to the Business school, you are correct in assuming that you will be able to apply earlier now that Michigan is opening its apdmissions to Freshmen and Sophomores. To improve your chances, take a couple of Econ classes (intro Macro and intro Micro), a couple of Calculus classes (115, 116), a Stats class and if possible, an accounting class your first year. It leaves very little room for fun. I would take ony 4 classes each of your first two trimester, but focus on taking specific classes and on getting at least a 3.5 GPA.

FIRST TRIMESTER:
Intro to Micro Economics
Calc I
English
An easy class.

SECOND TRIMESTER:
Intro to Macro Economics
Calc II
Stats
Accounting

I realize 4 classes per term does not seem like much, but given the classes you will be taking, you will be stretched. Obviously, if you have taken AP Math nin high school and done well in it, you will have a much easier time.

Esrajay, John applied to LSA. But high school students applying to Michigan in the fall of 2005 will be able to apply directly to the Business program.

yea thanks alot! I wish our class could apply directly to the business school.. i really want to study finance or information systems. Besides the b school at umich is really competitive thats why I'm hesitant about attending umich. So if i attend umich I would have to send another app later on for the business school? If i end up going to umich and dont get accepted into the bschool i'd prob end up studyin econ but i dont really want to do that...id prefer the science side rather than the social science side.

oh yeah...if you test out of calc i and or ii, take the next level. calc iii is so much easier and better than calc ii. the profs start teaching in calc iii rather than foreign gsi's that you can't understand. Don't fall into the trap of thinking that repeating a class you aced in high school will help boost your GPA

I still don't understand how they are going to differentiate after only one year of college. I mean I'll be fine because I've gone to college the past two years so I won't have a big adjustment to make; however, people who have never taken college courses might not do so good their first year. I think it's unfair to them in that respect...OH WELL! More spots for me!

yeah, I have no idea how the business school thing will work for us... but I'm sure we'll still have to apply, we'll just get to apply earlier maybe? Not sure, I can't find anything about it on the umich site...how did you guys hear about this anyways?
