My friend called admissions at Michigan yesterday and they said they're sending out more decisions in about 3 weeks, so do they do decisions in like...batches? Also.......do you think I would be in that batch of decisions? All of my stuff was complete on November 4th.

yeah mich does apps in batches but since u applied so late i wouldn't bet ur in that batch unless ur super brilliant and that may take 3-5 wks given the amount of applications already in. otherwise i say ur decision will come in like 7-9 wks

Lame:( i hateeeeee waiting.

3 weeks? does that mean if i dont know now i wont find out for atleast 3 weeks?

probably, when didd you apply?

app was complete on 10/24, they received everyting like 10/15

They're sending out decisions just about every week. What they are saying is that in three weeks they will decide whether or not to change the parameters for who gets admitted.

Remember how the website describes that every evaluated applicant is rated High Admit Plus, High Admit, High Admit minus, Admit Plus, Admit and so on? They're admitting everyone at a certain rating (or above) right now.

In the future, they may change where that line falls.

i didn't even hear anything from them...more than 2 weeks already. :(

banedon...2 weeks isn't a very long time. And this Q is for hoedown...does that mean they're changing the rating decisions for the people that APPLY on that date and after, or they're changing it for the people whose applications may have been complete a long time ago, but they're still in the process of reviewing them?

How exactly does UMich admissions work, and in particular application for financial add?

From what I have read on here, it appears that the earlier you apply, the more chances you have of being accepted. Is this the case for financial aid as well? Also, how much would my chances of admission be hurt if I was to send my application in late November?

sorry i forgot to mention that not hearing anything means not even an acknolegdenent or a Umich ID.

vrumchev, umich utilises a rolling admissions system. the earlier they get your file, the earlier they deliberate on it and the earlier you get a dicision/

No, once the readers read your application, you have your rating (which they assign based on holistic review--grades, rigor of high school program, test scores, recs, essays, etc). That's what it is, unless something drastically changes.

What does change, sometimes week by week, is whether or not U-M is admitting students of a certain rating or not.

If you haven't had a decision made on your application yet, or you have been informed that a decision is deferred (unless it's deferred for updated grades) * you remain in the pool*. You remain there, and every week that they make decisions, your application is up for consideration for admit.

It's not like each week they say "oh, here's Joe from Farmington Hills, he's been waiting for a few weeks, have we changed our mind about him?" It's more like "We have 90 applications that are rated 'High Admit' that haven't got a decision yet. Do we feel we can admit 'High Admits' this week?" If the answer is yes, all those 90 people get admit letters. If the answer is no, then nothing happens to those people, and the same question gets asked the next week (only the number will probably be higher than 90 by then, because the readers will have rated more people whose apps were recently completed, and some of them will likely be rated 'High Admits').

Just wondering...
What day of the week does UM usually send out its statements? Also, what about finaid info if I submit my Profile four weeks after my app (oops). Do merit based scholarships require the Profile and or FAFSA?

hoedown, how do they handle ACT/SAT scores. In my daughter's case, she applied long ago enough that they may have rated her application already -- but she just got a new set of test scores, that are much better than the last set. Will they rate her application again?

I have the same question as snorky

I don't know. I've wondered that myself. I'll ask next time I get the opportunity.
