Declare a double major after transferring from a California community college to a UC

Hello everyone! As my title shows it, I was wondering if it was possible to declare a double major after transferring to a UC. I don’t really have a set UC school I’m applying to and I know there are different situations concerning double majors in the different UC’s. The reason why I’m not declaring a double major here in my community college is because I’m already a biology major and as any major I have a LOT of pre-requistes and classes to go through. So, if I declare a double major, I’d be staying at the community college for over 2 years which would hold me back. (the biology recs already could have taken 3 years to complete as well). Anyhow, I don’t have much information/knowledge about this topic and was wondering if anyone could give me some advice. (also this isn’t a definite decision I’ve made yet just a consideration…) Thank you!

It sounds like you are earning Biology degree at your CC and are worried about declaring a double major at the CC taking too much time.

You do realize that the UCs do not ask you to complete a major at your CC? You can apply and get accepted to a UC without any major from your CC at all.

Really? I’ve been told that I have to have a major declared in order to transfer or at least have a better chance to be accepted as a transfer…

Lets be clear that we are talking about the same thing. I’m not clear on what you mean by “declare”. When you apply to transfer to a UC they ask you to list your intended major at the UC. Perhaps this is what you mean by “declare your major”

That is entirely different from earning an associates degree at a CC prior to transfer, which is what your posts seem to imply you mean by “declare.” There is no requirement to earn an AA degree prior to transfer. In fact I don’t think UC even asks if you are planning to get the degree before transfer so there isn’t even a place to list it.
