I can't seem to find a definite answer. If my son applies to RHIT next fall, will he be required to select a major when he applies? Is choice of major considered as a factor for admissions? And how hard is it to change majors if you change your mind after the first year?

Just so you know my experience, I’m a current freshman (two weeks to go!).

You are required to select a major, however, it does not factor into admissions and it is not difficult to change during your first year. During the first quarter, everyone is taking calculus, physics, chemistry, humanities, graph comm, and other fairly general courses, so changing majors is a piece of cake. After 2nd quarter is about the same. In the spring, many people are starting to move into slightly more major-specific courses, but if you decide to change then, those will usually substitute or become electives for your new major. They understand that you aren’t sure yet and they’re very good about accommodating changes and getting you into the classes you need.

Thanks! Enjoy your last two weeks before summer.
