On my common app, I wrote that I wanted to major in Computer Science and ultimately go into the College of Engineering. Does this limit my choice of what college I attend if I, for instance, decided I wanted to pursue business? I specifically mention business because I know it is a highly regarded school and I am very interested in Accounting, second to Computer Science.
Basically my question is: How much influence, if any, does the major/college written on the common app have on your ability to possibly change your mind come decision time?
All freshmen at Notre Dame start in the College of Freshman Year of Studies. From there you tailor your classes to fulfill the university requirements and some in the college you are interested in. Because you have an interest in Computer Science and Accounting, you should consider taking classes to satisfy the engineering college. If you decide to switch to business, you may have to apply to the business school for admission, but unless they are bursting at the seams, you will likely be allowed to change. You might want to contact your admissions rep and ask - I think they have an engineering degree with a business minor. He/she can also advise you about how to proceed if you want to switch before you get there. You can also consider getting your computer science degree and later on get your MBA.
