declaring a major at cal

Hey guys i was reading this thread from a while back and read that we don't automatically get put under the major we applied under, but we have to actually apply for that major during the first semester while finishing pre-req's which weren't offered at my ccc? Does that mean that I have to waste one whole semester taking the few pre-req's thus delaying my graduation? and does this also mean that we can simply apply for another major (not capped) if we have the pre-req's done? thnx for everyone that responds :)

you’re not really wasting a whole semester because they won’t let you graduate with a degree in a major without all the prereqs completed. You could just finish these prereqs in the summer.

Yes, you can declare another major thats not capped very easily if all the prereqs are fulfilled.

You can switch majors if it’s capped as well! Jetforce just sent me an awesome link saying that I can switch from phil to psych.

iambeowulf: Are you still considering the switch into Econ?

emilsinclair–would you be so kind as to share that link? thank you.

If I’m admitted, it will be as a philosophy major. However, I want to switch to psych. I’ll be in L&S and have a 3.7+, so switching shouldn’t (hopefully…) be an issue for me. I also have all but 2 prereqs done. I’m doing one over the summer, and my last one will be in the fall.

http://psychology.berkeley.edu/under...ransferfaq.pdf

I want to either change my major to, double major, or minor in Rhetoric at Berkeley. I think I’d probably minor in it, but I’d be open to possibly changing (I hope Jane doesn’t see this… she’ll beat the shiz out of me!)

@ Evan: Rhetoric at Berkeley is amazing. I considered minor-ing in that as well lol.

I’m just wondering, if you get into Berkeley would you still go to UCLA? I know that’s your home, and I totally get why you would stay.

Berkeley does have a bunch of cool perks though. Like you said, cool minors, (for me: Peace & Conflict Studies) and everything else :/.

But yeah man, alas, it is nearly that time for us to choose our destination. In a week or so you and I will probably know!

In a week?! My friend, I’ll know on Friday where I’m going! Ha ha. It’s going to come down to money, I think. Or, if Berkeley rejects me, then the decision will have been made. I’m really not sure what I want anymore :/

consider the shiz beat out of you!

:( Team Anthro…woot?

</3

:(

D: She’s found me!

Team Anthro, indeed! I think I’d probably minor in Rhetoric if anything ;)

baby do what makes you happy

just as long as you are happy, i am happy.
;)

hahaha emil now im considering rhetoric cuz i heard its great for law school. I looked on assist and none of the pre-req’s are offered at any ccc’s and cal said i only need one of the classes to declare that major. Does this mean that I can take this class and declare the major in the fall at the same time or do i have to wait until i get the grades for these classes back? I would actually save time by switching majors to rhetoric cuz it has less pre-req’s haha.

p.s. emil i saw that u got into ucla. congrats man!

Does this apply to any major, guys? I’ve been admitted to a major in L&S, but I may want to double major (or just switch) into engineering. Possible?

they won’t let you into engineering.

Jeez, I’m seriously trying to decide whether I love engineering or not - I am taking engineering classes for the first time ever this semester and I’m really starting to like it…now I’m starting to question whether I should transfer this semester or stay at my CC another year to decide (and work on more math :/)

holy crap i hate indecision

Does anyone know how difficult the Econ major at Cal is?

I heard it was one of the “easier” good majors. I am a Math Major and was originally going to double major in PACS but am now thinking of doubling in Econ. (And yes, I plan on staying a 5th year.)

have u taken the hard classes like physics and differential equations yet?

and mike, there was a thread from a while back with all the average gpa’s and it said econ majors averaged a 3.0… this kinda made me not want to do econ as my goal is law school haha

@iambeo No not yet, why? lol I’m in Chem 151 right now and pretty good at it, and I’m also in precalc right now. lol

Up until now, I’ve spent all my time at COC working on IGETC and prereqs for anthropology (and biology)

ohh yeah dude the engineering classes coc are a joke… thats why i was asking. just wanted to warn you so u dont get screwed over :)
