would declaring a economics major hurt your chances of admission, especially since i havent done much pure business extracurriculars (however i was overall very involved with mainly national circuit debating). the economics department is very competitive at U of Chicago, so would it be better to apply undecided?

I was wondering the same thing. I am pretty passionate about studying economics though, so I think I will tell them beforehand

do what you want to do, not what you think they want you to do (cuz you're not gonna find out)

If I remember correctly, the UChic application does not ask for one's intended major.

No, but if you go for an intervew they will ask about your academic interests, and also it asks for that on the pre-application thingy. They will know. Considering how often people change their minds, though, I don't think it will make much of a difference unless you indicate economics, then indicate somewhere else that you are completely ignorant of the field and the U of C program.

I said I was interested in the subject in an essay and in an interview and was accepted.
