declaring engineering major from undecided

i'm thinking about going to ucla. i got accepted for "undecided major".

i'm thinking about possibly computer science or computer engineering.

do they consider anything other than gpa and required prerequisite courses when you wanna declare the major ? how high does my gpa have to be ? how many people are able to get into engineering from undecided ?

It's very difficult to transfer into CS or CSE from outside the HSSEAS. You have to go the Office of Academic and Student Affairs on the sixth floor of Boelter Hall, and sign up for a casual appointment for counseling about changing majors into either CS, CSE or EE. Besides GPA and the completion of pre-req courses, they also look at your personal essay explaining your intent to change majors into engineering. I don't know how many people got into engineering from undeclared, but I don't think there are enough to fill a small room. You'll need around a 3.5 GPA, which is insanely tough. :(
