declaring residency

i'm a military dependant, and i've lived overseas for most of my life--therefore, although i am considered out-of-state, i really have no permanent place of residency within the u.s. i'm interested in living in michigan permanently after graduating, so i'd like to become a michigan resident. naturally this would change my out-of-state status.

does anyone know the required procedure to transfer my status from out-of-state to in-state? thanks

r u going to U of M or something to see if you qualify for instate status there?? or are you just asking about moving instate?

becoming instate if you are out-state or out-country is real hard. I am an out-state so i figured let me become Michigan resident to save money, well after hours of searches of google i found out that in order to be a resident of Michigan state you have to work and live in that state and if you dont have any parents or relatives living in Michigan then you must own some sort of property. Moreover you must somehow contribute to the Michigan community, not just by being in University and being a loyal student but actually doing something on the outside of the university. I figure the best way to get resident status in Michigan is to save governors daughter from an arranged accident. That way I will get the governors recomendation for me to be approved as the new resident of Michigan state.

*DOnt sue me for this, because i dont mean it.

thanks for the replies. umardarr, i'm going to be a freshman at U of M this fall...i figured i'd ask here to see if anyone has any experience with this sort of thing.

lol i was gonna give u the same exact answer you answered yourself...but thats cool u got it on ur own. My parents live in Toledo, ohio, which is like 10 min from the border and believe me when I say that they were trying VERY hard to somehow get instate status lol.
