Declined Transfer Admission because of WRA

I am currently a freshman at Indiana University and applied to Michigan State as a transfer. I was accepted to Michigan State out if high school but chose not to go there. I somewhat regret my decision and when I tried to transfer, they said my grades were fine, but I was declined because I had not taken an english class in college (3.8 college GPA, 3.8 high school and 30 ACT). Here at Indiana, I tested out of English with my ACT so I never had to take it. Is there any way getting around the WRA requirement? And is there anything I can do about this declined admittance.

If you open the actual decision letter on your student portal you will see the name and contact information for the counselor that reviewed your file. You can contact that counselor for more information on your decision and any options you may have.

@tommy3691 I had the same experience, except passed the WRA credits through CLEP. I was told it wouldn’t be an issue by a MSU dept. advisor (fun fact, transfer students are not allowed to speak to admission advisors…), but I was denied. They said the same thing to me, too. That I was a great fit for MSU and would do well (not to mention entering with 60 credits and an associate’s degree) but could not be accepted because of the WRA credits.

I’m horribly disappointed with the admissions process. Not only were they generally unhelpful, but it made me realize that MSU no longer offered what it had offered in the past. They looked at the student as a whole, numbers, qualifications, and diversity. Not anymore. I have had several family members graduate from MSU and the administration change is evident.

This is the second time I was denied admission based on a technicality. The first, I was a senior and high school, and was given bad information a number of times, including the fact that all of my necessary records had been received. Apparently, they had not, but I was either lied to or a victim of their disorganization.

I was to to apply again in a few years as a transfer students. As I detailed above, that was a train wreck.

I cannot assert enough how disappointed I am with Michigan State University. I should have been accepted on merit, as should have you @tommy3691 Michigan State University is not the place it was supposed to be. My sister graduated from MSU Lyman Briggs in '13 and said that the administration change has caused several staff members to leave.

I hope that MSU gets back to its roots.
