Declining a college

As the decision deadline is approaching, I believe that a lot of student will decline a lot of offer. So, what's the most polite and formal way to do this?

Many acceptance packages have the preferred method contained within. An email address, a log-in to an online portal, a post card. Failing that, call the college admissions ofc and ask what needs to be done.

Send an e-mail to admissions, or your admissions counselor if you have corresponded with one during the year. And be as polite and complimentary as you like. Many schools send around a follow-up survey asking where you enrolled and what sort of factors were important in your decision.

For my D, she declined the offers on their portal or through a link on the e-mail whenever it is available. For one schools that she could not find either, she sent an e-mail to the admission office. Don’t worry if they get the message or not as long as you have done your part. They really have no time to follow up with those who declined the offers. My D even skipped one of the survey when declining an admission offer as she was busy with other things.
