Declining Acceptances?

Now that I’ve finalized my college decision, I have eight other schools that I am for sure not attending. Do I need to notify these schools in any way that I’m not enrolling by declining my acceptance? If so, could someone explain where and/or how to do this?
Thanks!

FSU had a button to click “No, I will not enroll” so I pushed that. So unless other schools have those forms, you are under no obligation to notify them. Just let May 1st come and go.

Simply send an email to your admissions counselor, identify yourself by full legal name and date of birth, and politely indicate that your are declining admission. Then ask it they need any other information to formalize that decision.

Keep in mind that you do not want to burn any bridges, in case you decide that your first choice is not working out, and you want to transfer.

For our S, most of the admissions folks, in acknowledging his email declining admission, did ask where he had chosen to attend, and he responded with that information.

Good luck!

For the benefit of those waiting to be admitted, YES please contact the schools as soon as you are SURE you are not going there. If your GCs have good relationships with these admission reps, then it is probably best to at least have a name of a school you think you will attend if they ask. Rather than, well I got into 7 other schools, one of them but definitely NOT YOU

You should. Usually there is a link in the portal. Or you can reply by email. There was one school that we could not find an easy way to do that last year. That school ended up sending an email to my D after May 1 confirming our decision.

Yeah email them or go on their respective portals and decline their offer of admissions. That way they can offer the spot to someone on their waitlist!
