Decorating Dorm Rooms

Does anyone have any ideas? I want to make mine really colorful and pretty, but my school doesn't allow us to paint the walls...

How can I make my dorm room "home"?

Yes!
Great question, PurpoisePal!! I was wondering the exact same thing. I can't stand living in an environment that's not organized/inspirational!
Whomever answers that question, can you also let us know how you're suppossed to put stuff up on the walls if you're not allowed to use nails, tape, etc.?

And how can you decorate the dorm room if you don't want to use posters?
I want my room to look polished, and I think that posters are kind of tacky.

PurpoisePal -- do you scrapbook? Depending on what is allowed, I think that using large squares of color (colorblocking) if it is put up asymetrically, would look nice. (hard to explain -- but if you scrapbook, you know).

What about Wallies? Is that what you mean?

I was going to suggest Wallies. I saw an ad for them on television and also saw something similar in Target. How do those work? Do they paste on or are they like a vinyl cling type thing?

Wallies are prepasted wallpaper cutouts. They aren't the easiest to get off, so I'm not sure if they would be allowed.

i mean, i would say that your room will kind of decorate itself. like you'll find pictures in magazines that you like, or for example my friends made me three huge posters for my first swim meet and i had those on the wall. also, right before midterms sophomore year, my best friend and i labeled everything in my room. (the desk had a label that said DESK, the window, bed, fridge, etc.) the way you decorate your room when you first move in wont be the way it is all year, as your BS life takes shape.

Sofas, pillows and a mini fridge :]

sticky tack?
good ol' tape?
:D

lean to your interest =)
i'm planning to cover my dorm walls with fashion ads,
and pictures of home; as in my mom & me, and my doggy
and of course my friends =]

I'm going to have a going away party and have everybody sign a big poster and then put a picture of all of my friends in the middle. I'm going to hang that up. I'm going to put a lot of pictures up on the walls and cut outs from magazines.

Just don't wallpaper the room with aluminum foil (including ceiling and doors) like my roommate did. Came back from class one day and, voil

seriously? that's really funny.

aluminum foil? ha! no, that;s definitely not on the plan.

Personally I think it would be better to not cover walls with pictures of home. Reason being, you might get homesick and then decide to leave whatever school you were accepted to. If I was planning to draw a large alchemy circle on the wall, but I guess I'll have to wait a year or more. And other occult-related things. It's just my hobby :]

My son's roommate had the wall around his desk completely covered with clothing tags. It was....interesting.

if it were my dorm i would cover it with favorite band posters and line the walls with records of classics. and a couple pictures of family here and there

My daughter's college dorm room is so cute. All pink, green and teal. They have sage green curtains, a pink area rug. The beds are lofted with a futon below and pink, green, and teal throw pillows. She and her roommate communicated in advance so they have the same color scheme for all of their desk accessories, lamps, and bedspreads. They have strings of mini-lights in those colors as well.
My son's room at bs is much more plain because, 1. He is a guy and 2. At bs you are not allowed cloth wall hangings (including curtains), strings of lights, televisions, refrigerators in room, or area rugs. There is certainly no room for a futon! He doesn't care, though. His walls are decorated with pictures of his favorite football club (Chelsea), posters of his sister at nationals as well as her college team poster. We also found some nifty antique postcards of his school, and he has his varsity letters hung up. His little corner of the room is homey for him; his roommate does not have a single decoration up.
