The deadline for NSLI-Y has already passed, but that is a great study abroad program (intensive language study) and if you’re eligible to apply next year I would definitely do so! I’m an Arabic summer '13 alum ^.^

The State Department has several fully funded study abroad programs depending on what you’re looking for: CBYX is for Germany, and YES-KL is for a country with a majority Muslim population.

Other than those, CIEE has a Korean scholarship, YFU has a couple Japan scholarships, and Rotary Exchanges are typically very reasonable/you can fundraise or get funding from your local club if they’re nice.

If you’re a sophmore or junior interested in studying abroad for 2 years and completing an IB program, check out [UWC | UWC](http://www.UWC.org) . That’s one program I really wish I had known about when I was still eligible!

Best of luck! There really are a lot of scholarships for study abroad out there when you look. It’s an incredible experience and I think everyone should go if they get the chance :)

Thank you! Unfortunately I’m a already in 11th grade (and going to turn 18 before the year’s over) so I wouldnt be able to do UWC. I really really wish I had known about it sooner as well.

I also learned that I missed the deadline to NSLI-Y a little bit ago and was soooo mad at myself. How was the experience?

Yeah I was also looking into CBYX just the thing is I don’t know how that would go over with transferring credits, graduation, etc. So I was mainly focusing on summer stuff.

I’ll check out those other ones though. Thanks again!

Rotary International has an incredible youth exchange program.
I am currently in Spain for a year and since I began the process over a year ago, it has been a blast (besides waiting for my visa…).
There are both short term and long term exchanges, and many students choose to take a gap year after high school (which is actually really attractive to many universities.)
I am here during my senior year, after completing all of my senior year graduation requirements this past summer.

While it is not free, there are no fees to participate, just things like your flight and how you choose to spend your money while here. Also, there are ways to get scholarships if you are in need, and every Rotary club is required to provide students with a monthly allowance of $50 or more.

If you have any questions about youth exchange through Rotary, please DM me! I would be happy to help you out!
