Deep Springs 2017 entry

I got accepted into the second round…

Congrats! Email or phone call?

I got it by email.

I also got an email at around 5:50 today and I didn’t get into the second round. That was disappointing but I never thought that I would actually get accepted. I’ve had my mind set on Bennington and Reed as the alternatives.

@LigerMan Could you privately send me any of the essays you created for the application? I think you offered to do that in one of your past comments. I’m interested in seeing what kind of essays deep springs views as high quality. I completely understand If you don’t want to but I’m incredibly curious.

Of course! I just sent you a message…

@LigerMan, I’m also interested in seeing your essays. I didn’t get in either.

Others who got in and those who didn’t should also let us know.

Feel free to shoot me a message to talk @jesumed

:frowning:

hello guys I know it has been a while. Congrats, again, to those who have made it. To those who have not, we still have our futures waiting ahead.
I’m just very curious why I was rejected. Has anyone contacted them after receiving the decision?

Hello @RUHTRA999. I’m the parent of someone who made it through to the second round this year. His visit is coming up. The only contact he’s had with the school is submitting his second round materials and a few logistics questions about the visit.

With respect to why he made it through, who knows? Knowing something about the school, I think he’s the kind of kid I’d be looking for if I were ApCom. He’s smart with high stats and writing is his biggest strength. He’s not an intellectual poseur - and I bet DS gets lots of applications from intellectual poseurs (I’m not in any way suggesting you are of course, knowing nothing about you!). His essays were well thought and well written but clearly were the product of a smart but normal high school senior. He is involved in high school and does well, but in no way is he some prodigy or nationally recognized standout in any area.

What he definitely is is genuine - with his activities and writing I think he’s the kind of person you’d want to spend two years with in close quarters. And once the ApCom feels like you can do the work, I’d guess that’s the most important thing.

Could you please also send it to me? I would like to apply next year as a transfer student and I want to know what they expect from us

Hi all!

I had absolutely no idea there would be such an active conversation around this school. It has been interesting to go through and read the thread. I was lucky enough to make the first cut, and I cannot wait to visit the valley. Google maps sells it fairly well haha.

For anyone who got in:
Would you happen to be visiting Feb 7-10? It might be nice to connect with one of you before we step on the bus.
