I wonder if anyone accidentally submitted their application early, considering how similar it looks to the save button.
I know!! I’m always scared that I’ll mess that up!!
IT FEELS SO NICE TO SUBMIT AND HAVE IT OFF MY HANDS!! Anyone else in the same boat?
Any idea when we hear back from DS? Is it Dec22?
I thought it was early December (The sometime between Dec 1st to Dec 31st zone :^) )? On another note, how do you guys feel about your essays? I feel lackluster in my because I sound like a raving madman talking about the need for moderation and detachment from society in general (perhaps I read to much Thoreau like authors, lol).
Side note my school manage to screw two of my transcript sends over. Yay.
Hey! I love Thoreau, too! My essay about Why Deep Springs was all about how much it mimics his two years at Walden Pond… Ugh! I just want to hear back already! What essay topics did you choose?
A bit anxious to hear back. Even to go to the school for an interview has the potential to be a life-changing experience. I wrote about Rousseau and Savio and about why inconsequential changes in scientific understanding don’t matter. After I submitted my app I had my dad read my essays. He said the science one and the why Deep Springs ones were good, but the other two were verbose. The easiest essay for me was the science one, I think.
I’m in the same boat as you… very nervous to hear back! The thought of simply going there to interview makes me giddy!
My science essay was about working at a museum, where I specialize on information about mummies. I talked about how for a long time we had no idea what Hieroglyphs meant, but we now have a better idea and how hypothetically we could be living in a world before the next big advancement in heiroglyphic understanding… but how I’m kind of okay with that.
What about your relationship essay?
I was considering that minor changes in scientific understanding did not matter as well, but in trying to write that essay I convinced myself that they do matter very much. What was your thesis? Also, did you guys take the prompt to ask whether ALL minor changes in understanding matter, or only those in astronomy? I thought it meant astronomy specifically.
I interpreted it as any scientific understanding. So, again, mine was about our understanding of what heiroglyphics mean and represent and how if we don’t trust scientific understanding and personally try to prove everything, life would be incredibly slow and and sans standardization. I didn’t really have one controlling thesis since everything sort of built off each other. What about your other essays?
@ilovewhitman
First I answered the Savio Question. specifically, I tended to focus on how society needs “Balance”. In my essay I note that Savio does not dispute that society is a machine, only that sometimes it becomes so detrimental to the individual because of the cost of complexity.
I also did the question regarding scientific consensus. Specifically, I built my argument off the fact that consensus is constantly changing and that the only “true” indisputable part of it is the inability of others to dispute it. In addition, I argued the “basis” of authority simply lay in peer pressure of the consensus group. I talk about the commonly accepted Asch conformity experiment (A bit ironic due to my thesis though). I did feel I was ranting quite a bit though on my last point of peer reviews.
How long were your essays? I’ve been cutting the word limit on all of these. In addition, how did you attack the last question? I wrote about my personal experiences and how those relate closely to the Deep Springs program.
My last essay was about Walden and the similarities between Deep Springs and Thoreau since I love the transcendental movement. And I can’t remember exactly but all my essays were pretty close.
Out of curiosity… What do you guys want to major in?
I’d major in Physics.
Has anyone heard back about an interview? I know they said by December 22nd, but I’m anxious to know.
No word yet about admissions for me!
Thanks for the reply…anxiously waiting.
I sent an email since I was out of country and wanted to make sure they didn’t call. No reply yet.
Ugh! Feels like I’m in a vacuum and Deep Springs only exists in this wierd, pneumatic tube! @DragonofChangban Where are you traveling / visiting right now?
Do they call? How do they notify those who have and haven’t made it?
Definitely not an expert… so don’t take this word as definitive truth… but it seems like historically they call those that make it to Round II and send an e-mail/physical mail to those that do not make it to the next round. Maybe someone else who knows more can chime in?
