My friend is considering attending Deep Springs College and he wants to know if any of you guys know more about this unique school. Did any of you guys attend it? Will attend it? Know someone that will?
Please all your help is really appreciated!!

well, he's gonna end up having to go to a four year college after the 2 yrs there, but he's guaranteed a spot at an Ivy.....

it's hardcore s**t to say the least

I'm not very familiar with it, but I do know it has a very daunting application process with several rounds involving lots of essay writing.

Is it harder to get in than Harvard and more prestigious?

yep (10 char)

i think they only have like 30 people enrolled total or something crazy like that. They have to do some kind of manual labor(per week) and i think students run the admissions process.

yeah that place is crazy...

Here's the rub:

Your friend would get to live with 25 other men in the middle of the CA/NV desert (it's right on the border). Yep. No women for miles. Let that sink in.

What does your friend want to know? If he made it to the final round, he has spent three days at the college. It is certainly not for everyone, but after spending the time there he should have an idea what to expect. It is an intense environment, both academically and physically. The boys all work at a job, (which rotates every seven weeks) committee work and school. The kids there are amazing people, who have chosen to go to DS over top universities. It is quite an opportunity to go to DS.They can go on to the university they initially rejected if they so choose as a Junior- it is a two year experience. My son loved it there, and wouldn't have traded it for anywhere.

My friend applied to Deep Springs this year and has given me a bunch of info about it (I'm afraid I can't remember most of it).

The summary was: "It's an unique experience that only a minority would like but if you do like it, you will never know how you lived without it."

It sounds like a transformative, religious experience. You should go if accepted.

It seems a very interesting college. But, how did you guys know the existence of this college?

Its in the princeton review for one! And its main overlaps are like Princeton, Harvard, Yale, etc.
