Is this a plausible option for students who are intested in attending both institutions?
Would they be required to essentially start all over and go through an entire 4 year program at usafa or would they be able to shave a year or two off because of transfer credits?

You would have to start over.

And you can't start USAFA after your 23rd birthday.

id imagine after 2 years of college at deep springs, the student would be either 20 or 21, not even close to 23.. right?

would u be able to use transfer credits to get into higher level courses (not skip any years cuz i understand nobody does that but just take more advanced courses)

There are only so many classes you can validate and they are validations, not so much transfer credits. I heard at orientation that they would accept only like three credits, or the equivelent of 3 classes, but you would have to fill that time with something else - you couldn't just be idly sitting around.

I have no idea what Deep Springs is--never heard of it, so I just quoted the age rule.

You can validate MANY classes at USAFA--much more than just three 3-credit courses, but you still spend 4 years there and have to take a minimum load on the order of 15-17 hours per semester. Several years ago, a kid came to USAFA at age 19 having already earned his BA from Princeton at a very early age. Decided the AF was for him. He took a full load, triple majored or something and is probably still in the AF.

When you validate courses, higher level core classes are moved up in your schedule, leaving you more slots as a Secondclassman and Firstclassman to take majors and elective courses.

Deep Springs is an all-male college/ranch. It sounds cool, if you like hard labor.

frankly it sounded a little bit unusual to me...... it had the appearance of come to DS and pay to work my ranch for me... and i will teach you ... but i could be wrong

I hear Deep Springs is an amazing education. I thought you peeps would know or at least hear about DS .

You forget--I'm old. I try to keep up, but there are a few things I miss now and then.

deep springs is free i think. theres only like 24 students or so there, and they seem to all transfer to ivy league after their 2 years at DS.. not a bad deal at all.
