@boarderkid : yup you can do that. The way I did it got ME in, but it’s always good to confirm. hope i could see you at DA next year

lindha: I actually had a bit of trouble with my deerfield essay. the question gives you pretty specifics, but its a broad range. I just basically went through the topics. they were like…hopes and expectations, things that most influenced you, and umm. something else. It wasn’t really stand out essay. I mean, it was good, and pretty interesting I guess. It just showed genuine enthusiasm, and kindness/values. which is pretty important. Sorry I can’t give you better advice! but as long as its enthusiastic, well written, and shows a sense of self, I think that’s really what they are looking for.

livenlaugh thxss that do help yaa is pretty the same questions this year. but did u get into deerfield?

yes! why else would I be on the deerfield forum haha? I will be attending this fall.

what was ur SSAT score?

96% overall.

Woow!! thats is so beyond me

livenlaugh, you’re living the dream right now. just sayin’. :)

if you find out any information on like, the diving team there (in the fall), could you please let me know? if it’s too much trouble, then don’t.
thanks so much!

I will let you know divealive. I’m pretty sure diving is a winter sport, along with swimming…and I plan on swimming, so I may be able to make some observations for you haha.

DiveAlive,
The diving team is very, very strong. The coach (check out the website “coach’s page”) is an Olympic medalist and DA frequently finishes 1-2-3 in the diving event at meets and even in New Englands (a few years ago). The pool is wonderful and there is a separate diving well and hot tub for the divers. That’s the extent of my knowledge.

Deerfield’s pool was pretty nice, but Hotchkiss’s was amazing! One of my interviewers told me that diving wasn’t very popular so any interest could be considered a hook.

^^ oh nooo, flipp, don’t tempt me… just when i eliminated hotchkiss :@

yeah, hotchkiss’s diving team has a facebook group, so i checked it out. they have mid-air pictures. that’s like… a pedophile trying to lure children in with lollipops! it’s not fair!

@ hola: thanks so much! their team sounds pretty awesome… i wonder how hard that would make it to get on the varsity team. :(

sooo, on topic… when do you think would be a good time to start scheduling an interview for deerfield? on the website, it just said “call the office at 000-000-0000”. should we start scheduling them now ?

They also told me there weren’t any cuts for diving and they don’t have a JV team so I think you would only have the chance to be on Varsity. I’m pretty sure this is at both Deerfield and Hotchkiss.

I know both schools pretty well and like many, you are always included in the swim program. Your times/judged score are what they are and that is what determines Varsity, there are no cuts. The Hotchkiss pool is amazing and many would say the DA pool is as well, both would be excited to chat with you. Start scheduling interviews now and PW me if you need any advice.

Divealive, I urge you to scheldule the interview in the fall.
I can definitely say Deerfield look fantastic in the fall. (although i haven’t seen it in the spring yet)

Divealive, why’d you eliminate Hotchkiss ? Hotchkiss and Deerfield are very similar schools culturally, just apply to both can’t hurt. You never know you may change your mind in the future. Deerfield is a wonderful school though but Hotchkiss is as well. I love the name more than anything. Deerfield. ha it sounds so sexy.

Would you suggest going to Deerfield in the fall or winter? (or any NE school?)

The fall is always beautiful…but so is the winter…make SURE you are wearing good shoes to walk around in the snow if you go in the winter though haha

DiveAlive, when my son and I visited the 10 BS’s to which he applied last winter, we would always try to identify the most impressive thing or things at each such school and then compare it or them to things similar at the other schools. The things that we saw at Hotchkiss, which we thought were most wonderfull and, in fact, better than at any of the other great BS’s we visited, were the music hall and the swimming area. Both absolutely magnificent.

is is a little off the current topic but… deerfield is near 2 cities. springfield and northampton. im from the area and it really bothers me(and alot of people) that people do not acknowledge any of the cities in wmass. northamton has alot of shops and springfield is actually rlly large. both cities are only a bit of a drive. sorry just had to get tht out there.
