@ Rad-in-Plaid: Thanks for clearing that up! I was always under the impression that DA was in the middle of nowhere, so I was afraid of driving out and getting lost and being late and getting eaten by bears etc etc, but now I feel a lot better. Thanks again! :D

@ toombs61: … I take the bait. Just when I was trying to cut down on schools… B| i suppose they’re all too good…

@ hyeonhoy: Thanks for that information, I’ll definitely try to schedule soon… I’m still trying to convince my mom to arrange an on-campus interview but now that I’m sure (thanks to Rad-In-Plaid) that I won’t get lost/eaten by rabid piranhas, I’ll put extra pressure on her. Hahaha.

@ hola3: Thank you, that helps a lot! Will do. :)

@ kafkareborn: I think Hotchkiss & Deerfield are both gorgeous names… On one hand, you have a beautiful field full of dear, and on the other, you have… hot kiss… hot chicks… no, hotchkiss! hahaha! (okay disregard the “hot chicks” part, but yeah, cute name)
Um… I’m honestly not sure. I guess Hotchkiss seemed to be … um … okay, eh, I have no clue. I just kind of… blanked out… I think… maybe.

Okay, so I’m making no sense anymore and I totally don’t mean to hijack this thread so if any of you have questions, please ask!

Thanks again, you guys. (and girls, but…)
:D

I’m sure at this time of year calling the admissions office and arranging an interview/tour would be reasonable and easy to set up. Try and call any school you might be thinking of visiting early on Monday morning and since most schools aren’t busy with year opening events until after Labor Day a tour/interview should be easily arranged.

Says you. And where exactly are you from, and what experience do you have with towns in Western Mass!? how the **** is Springfield a hicktown!? Excuse me, but I don’t see any farms around here!

sorry* my bad, but its easy to get insulted when most ppl don’t even know anything about the western half of the state yet maintain the opinion that we’re all hicks who grow up on the family farm. my pride got the best of me.

BUT ANYWAY, BACK TO THE TOPIC… is deerfield really as preppy and strict as they say

Just funnin’ ya Rad – but when I was driving through Sringfield the other day I saw a guy playng the banjo on his porch. The song: “Dueling Banjo’s”.

oh my god, i rewrote and rewrote my deerfield essay like, 50 times. gah. i’m having a lot more luck with exeter’s essays… for some reason, i’m having a lot of trouble with the deerfield one. no idea why, the prompt is pretty easy compared to like, andover’s BRIGADE one… hmm.

boarderkid, how long is your deerfield essay? i’m trying to keep it at under 600 words, but right now it’s like… under 60. LOL.

So if I’m applying as a sophomore girl, it’ll be especially hard to get in? Do you think it’ll lower chances significantly for someone to get in? Ah, I’m so scared now!

I like my Deerfield essay so far I hope it doesn’t sound cheesy, livenlaugh would you mind taking a look at it?

What? Exeter’s essay? Those are the ones giving me trouble right now. Is Andover’s application up yet?

So far, DiveAlive, it’s spilling over a page but I haven’t reached the danger mark of more than 1 1/2 pages. Yet.

600 words? Really? That’s insane! Right now, I have 719 words in my essay, and I haven’t even started to conclude anything :/

jasminexx, you’re applying as a sophomore girl too? So am I! And I don’t know…DA is overenrolled for the freshman class this year and has more girls than 50%. So I suppose yes, it’ll be harder for us girls to get into DA compared to boys applying for sophomore year.

could anyone tell me if the SSAT test is hard?
because im trying to apply to deerfield and im a international student (currently live in portugal). i can speak and understand english, but looking at the SSAT preparations, the test looks quite hard. the synonym part is the most difficult, because ive never heard of most of the words there. is TOEFL easier?
i’ll be applying for 2010, as a freshman i think. i’ll be 15 next year.
if anyone would answer i appreciate.

^ for a foreign student who doesn’t know too much English, it would be pretty darn difficult. i, personally, didn’t find it that hard (the math section was surprisingly easy!). i got a low score on the reading comprehension section of that test, but others find that part really easy, so it differs from person-to-person.

@ boarderkid: no, andover’s isn’t up yet (i don’t think so, at least) but last year, they had some sort of brigade essay prompt that i found… hard to write about… some others might find that one really easy (??)/interesting, though. haha.

yeaah, 600 words is really short but the adcom must read thousands of essays and… ehh, i’m trying to keep it short but sweet. key word here being TRYING. 700 and 600 are close, anyways. :P
