Deerfield Academy [Deerfield, MA]

Oh REALLY??? that’ll be the coolest thing ever!!! No jOKE??? I know Verbier because of its music festival, a lot of amazing classical musicians go there every summer for the Verbier Festival, I play the piano quite well, and i hope to get invited to go there someday!!
I’m jealous that you were accepted into Milton, i was rejected there. It’s probably because you live in Sweden, so the DA admissions perhaps thought it was tooooo far away to send you a notecard, since it’ll maybe take like a month to get there (exaggerated a bit ;)) I love sweden and switzerland, alright I love europe in general :D, i will definitely choose to live there in the future if possible. are you going to revisit? wow I’m so excited that you know how to ski!!!

Nope it’s a deal  to be honest all I know of in Verbier is the skiing, hotels, nightclubs and restaurants :P. Yeah ofc it was nice to be accepted however I was set on goin’ to Deerfield so well actually it served no purpose other than rasing my self esteem. But their admissions department deserves all the credit that they can get for personalizing and assigning every applicant a personal admissions officer. Well hopefully ur right 'bout the card…

Well it’s funny that u love Europe cause I can’t wait to get outta here. I’m sick of the socialism, militant environmentalism and the equality debate that is on the first parge on every freakin’ newspaper in the country, ofc unless it’s about how we’ll all be dead in 2 years from global warming -.- and actually I’m considering living in Texas after I graduate from college to get as far away from the european mindset as possible =P

Swede: At the parent lunch during revisits (you’ll be at lunch with your host in the dining hall), Head of School Magarita Curtis will mention an acceptance rate during her talk. In the April Scroll, they will announce more detailed admissions statisitics.

that’s the probelm :frowning: I can’t go for the revisits since my mother insisted in goin’ to Italy and the Lake Como (I know poor me  ) but still it would’ve been fun to go there and now I can’t 'cause my mom won’t allow me to go to Mass by myself and she won’t go with me. Well I guess I have to read about it online in the scroll and just see for myself how it is some other time.

I play volleyball and cross-country right now, so I would have to choose…
Which do you think is better?

Deerfield is like my no.1 choice and probably the only school I’ll apply for.
I got the viewbook today in the mail!!! I’ve now read it cover-to-cover about 5 times!

@Deerfield Swede I didn’t play a single sport coming into Deerfield and I now play three. Every single sport (except Crew I think) has a bottom team from which no one can be cut, so you get a chance to try any sport you want. Plenty of kids come with minimal athletic experience, and on top of that plenty Varsity athletes started out with no experience at all.

@alelu: I’m going to sound like I’m dodging the question but I seriously think every sport is pretty much equal…or incomparable. Cross Country is very much cardio-based, and is the sort of thing that is based less on natural talent, and more how hard you work. Volleyball probably has more natural hand-eye coordination involved, but you have to train a good amount as well. I’m obviously though not an expert on either I’m just offering my impressions. If you have any questions about either sport, @ revisit day there is a time and place where you all coaches will be available for questions from anyone visiting. That’s a good time to get a feel for the two programs.

I loooveeee Deerfield! Definately go to Deerfield if you have a choice!

I didn’t mean which sport is better as a sport haha
I play both now: volleyball is a winter sport at my school, but I was wondering which performs better at Deerfield and things like what the team dynamic is.
To anyone who plays volleyball, I tend to play back row/libero since I’m no where near tall enough to block (5’2’') so pretty much useless in the front row on receive and I don’t have the mad skills to be a setter.

Not to dis DA or anything but I found this a couple moths ago on the onion and found it hilarious.:

DEERFIELD, MA—Deerfield Academy first-year Foster R. Poole III told reporters Monday that he had received yet another Wet William from a group of upperclassmen who reportedly torment the 14-year-old private school student relentlessly. “If they’re not administering a painful Charles Horse to my thigh, then they’re manhandling my scalp with a series of rough Baron Von Noogingtons,” Poole said while drying his ear with a monogrammed handkerchief. “And just last week those ruffians forced my head into a lavatory toilet and gave me the Aqua Coriolis of a lifetime. Simply outrageous behavior.” Poole said he plans to try out for the coxswain position on the academy’s varsity crew team, a gambit for increased popularity he hopes will curtail the painful Wedgewoods he often receives while changing in the gymnasium locker room.

Rad in Plaid that went around campus it’s hilarious. “Baron Von Noongingtons”

Baha, I’m glad.

NEVER apply to only one school!!! that may very well be the most stupid decision you ever made, especially if u need FA. Some1 here received a card saying the admissions rate was 14% and last year it was 16% u can easliy see that the avarage is 15%. that means the school REJECTS on avarage, 85% of all applicants and as u have to be good at math to attend Deerfield u can easily see that the odds aren’t in any1’s favor. I would apply to ATLEAST 3 schools and preferably around 5-6 to spread the risk. Remember if u are rejected or WL’d and u may very well be, remember u’ll have to wait another year before u can apply again also if you’re accepted to other schools the emotional effect of being rejected into your dream school can atleast be alleiviated.

I applied to one school and got in with financial aid.

well ofc it’s possible but I wouldn’t recommend it at all since the risk of getting rejected is overwhelming especially if u apply to schools like Deerfield where as I said around 85% of all applications are rejected.

Urbanflops one school was Exeter.

That’s awesome! I was rejected but I don’t mind it was my 2nd choice anyways  but you can’t honestly say that you would recommend one to apply to just one school? It just seems like a waste of test fees, time etc. As i said b4 it’s a huge risk involved.

OT: how do u add a location to ur profile??

I agree, I applied to 4. To change location: click on your name and the click on the ‘about me’ tab and change your location.

gr8 thnx for the help!

I wouldn’t recommend applying to one school for people who really want to go to boarding school. It was better for me because I didn’t have to spend too much time on it and money flying place to place.
