Does anyone else not want to start it or is it just me.....The whole application is just insipid. The worst part is that its unlike any other essay so I cant just grab parts from my other million essays.

Just wondering if anyone else applying to deerfield shared my thoughts about any of the schools essays.

I just finished writing my Deerfield essay today. I thought it was the easiest one I've had to write so far, simply because all the prompt asks you to do is talk about yourself. What are you finding difficult with it?

Tell you what, though. I AM happy to be done with it.

Its not that it's hard..I just don't want to do it lol. I like creative writing like exeters "Whats your favorite song" something I can turn into a good essay. But I guess if they give me a boring question I'll respond with a boring answer.

Haha mpicz I asked on another thread but I guess this one is more straightforward considering you were the OP - what other schools are you applying to and for what grade?

Haha, as for the Deerfield essay, I just used nice words and interesting techniques like alliteration and similes... I think it sounds okay. But I know how you mean. I definitely don't want to start Exeter's. As I've said previously, how do I fit two well-written essays into "the space provided" unless I write in miniscule handwriting?

O sorry I must not have seen it. Im in 10th now but I think im going to apply as a repeat 10th to Andover Exeter St pauls school and Deerfield.. what about you?

Ya I decided ill start deerfield tommorow, all this should be worth it on March 10th. Lol ya...I found a way, I didn't say as much as I wanted for exeter, but I really like my exeter essays. I drew my own lines on the paper and wrote kinda small but eligible

No no, it's my fault. I lose track of my posts as well. I'm a 10th grader as well, applying to Andover, Exeter, and Deerfield, but I'm not applying as a repeat. I actually asked my parents but we just don't have enough money for any more than two years - those two years with A LOT of financial aid. Why are you applying as a repeat, just for higher chances of admission?

Higher chance of admission...Plus im "young" for 10th grade. They made me realize this...didn't really notice until they pointed it out to me. Ya my parents want me to do 11th for a couple and 10th for maybe only SPS cuz it virtually impossible to come in at 11th grade..
My parents are gunna need pretty substantial financial aid also...my moms hoping for a full ride. Cuz we also pay full tuition for my brother at Duke

Ooh, yeah, that's got to be a strain. My only excuse is that I live in England and, in case you haven't been following the news, the pound is doing so badly right now. It's been terrible for my parents' salaries but hopefully it will mean that I'll qualify for more aid. We'll see. My parents are teachers at my current school so I'm getting a free ride here, but gosh, I hate TASIS, I really do.

So you're from a smart family, huh. How do you think your chances are for these schools, and which is your first choice?

I wouldnt say that...my parents are from Nigeria..I live in america. My bro's pretty smart...I wouldn't say im as smart but I have other stuff.

I mean I think my chances are pretty good but so do a lot of people. Im just gunna kinda wait and see...my top choice right now is Andover but it changes like every day lol. U?

Andover is mine as well, but I was biased towards it before I even visited because my mom graduated there and is a huge Andover fan. Strangely enough, though, it was my idea to even apply in the first place. With her love of Andover, I'm surprised she didn't sorta 'have' me apply. It was probably because she wanted me to avoid the potential (and more than a little likely) disappointment at not getting in.

Well, maybe you're just modest. You sound smart in your other posts, even if you're not trying to. Good luck with Andover. Which is your second choice? Mine is Deerfield, chiefly because of my gripes with Exeter's trends in communication but also because I love the way Deerfield feels like a great big family more than anything else.

Well with you being a legacy child if your credentials are good you will probably get in. Im not really sure what my second choice is...its either Exeter or St Pauls school right now. But like I said it changes all the time.

Yeah, those are both really good schools as well. I think they may, in fact, be better academically than Deerfield. But hey, I'm hardly speaking from a wealth of experience.

Well I don't know how legacy admissions work. I assume, however, that it really doesn't count for a lot at most schools like Andover, simply because I believe that they're probably committed to admitting students of ability over students of alumni affiliation and a little ability. I don't quite know how I fit in this spectrum in comparison with other applicants and I've more or less given up grade-grubbing because I've learned that grades are such relative things. A "B" at one school could be an "A" at another or a "C" at another. It's such a relative statistic in admissions that I really don't know how much what one's grades are on paper can possibly count for in the overall process. I'm not an admissions officer, and right now I certainly don't envy the responsibilities that admissions officers have. As I am learning, admitting the right students is a real challenge because so many of them look exemplary on paper. As I am also learning, however, they don't always get it right, either.

Yes your correct...well Im sure being a legacy child helps for something, but im not sure. Ya I feel bad for the admissions people...I couldn't do it..

^ isn't the pound still valued more than the dollar? or am i losing track. last i remember the pound was still roughly twice the value of the dollar. btw i love england :) i have a friend from there and they're wonderful :D:D

Last time a went to london which was last summer it was fine...but aloooot has happened with the economy globally since then. I haven't read BBC in awhile so I don't have specific details. But ya, not to many economies around the world are doing great currently.

i actually thought it was the easiest since it's not really a strict prompt and you have some space to move around in. i really didn't like the hotchkiss essay mainly because i couldn't think of anything for the prompts they gave us
