tempered by an increasing awareness of the needs of others and a shared responsibility for a healthy and happy community

every school has something like that in their mission statement. By saying diverse they mean skin color ethnicity ect...not sexuality. if they were supportive of gays they wouldnt have put the line about traditional family enviroment in there.

Rather than kill this thread we should change it into the official thread for song lyrics and links to songs which decry homophobia, bigotry, racism and hatred!

Traditional to me seems like it was put in there to convince those who aren't comfortable sending their kids away from a STABLE family environment (be it a gay household or a straight household), not supporting heterosexual only relationships.

And jenycraig, I attend Exeter, everyone calls it Harkness Society. It's funny that it's defined as Harkness Club. It could very well used to have been Harkness Club and changed for an arbitrary reason.

For an overview of laws in the United States on LGBT issues, check out the various maps at this link:

Ugh, times are changing, and people need to change with them. That includes people at BS. 50 years ago, as a student of colour, I would be targeted. Now that raceisim is considered taboo, it seems homosexual students are the new scapegoats. Why can't we leave all that behind us? People are people, 'nuff said. A good student is a good student, 'nuff said. What does the student's sexuality have to do with anything? Live and let live. Love and let Love.
and to all you Beatles fans... Let it be.

Elio,
It sounds like you are the one decrying traditional Christian Values. You should look at the current Smithsonian magazine. The chasity/abstinence movement is growing at all High Schools and Universities in the US (with the notable exception of Harvard). No one here supports bigory nor racism nor is "homophobic" -- some of us just believe in Christian values which I am sorry that you apparently don't.

I'm sorry Biggestfoot, I've been a devout Catholic From the time of my birth. And I still can't Imagine God EVER frowning upon ANY kind of love. There is no love without God.

ummm dazlezz he specifically says he frowns upon homosexuality...know what your talking about before you say something

Brooklyn
Nice post. Unfortunately for you (and I mean that sincerely), it looks like more states are currently outlawing same sex marriage and rights. I do have some friends that are both "very" heterosexual and those that are gay (sorry for the earlier "homo" comment - was using it content of the quote I used). We hang out and have some great arguments. You are also correct in that the Smithsonian article I mentioned stated that the chastity club at Harvard is severely "made fun of". I probably won't attend Harvard or Exeter for those reasons. Deerfield, HK and PA did not seem quite so liberal to me. I will probably have more problems "fitting in" wearing my cbboots with old horse manure coated on them. And theind, traditional is traditional at Thacher.

Biggestoot,

You are not attending Exeter because you were not accepted, according to your earlier post which you have attempted to cleanse.

Tell me where HE says that.

Where in The Bible does it say "Oh yeah, and God dosen't like Gay people."
Matthew? nope.
Job? nope.

It's not in there.

During the Women's Right's movement people claimed that God meant for men to stay in power. Does that mean that HE frowns upon Hillary Clinton too?

Elio: You take the cake. I did not cleanse my post, only posted where I was currently going. And you are correct, I was not accepted at Exeter, possibly after telling my interviewer that I was opposed to and would not have an outwardly gay Coach.

Dazz:
Genesis 19, Leviticus 18:22 says, "Do not lie with a man as one lies with a women; that is detestable." Leviticus 20:13 says, "If a man lies with a man as one lies with a woman, both of them have done what is detestable." Romans 1:26-27: "For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature: And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompence [sic] of their error which was meet."

1 Corinthians 6:9: Do you not know that the wicked will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor male prostitutes nor homosexual offenders nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God."

1 Timothy 1:10: "For whoremongers, for them that defile themselves with mankind, for menstealers, for liars, for perjured persons, and if there be any other thing that is contrary to sound doctrine"

Jude 1:7 Even as Sodom and Gomorrha, and the cities about them in like manner, giving themselves over to fornication, and going after strange flesh, are set forth for an example, suffering the vengeance of eternal fire.

I think He frowns on Hillary for many other reasons (lying, etc), but let's not go there.

Ruth 1:16-17 (Ruth and Naomi)

"Where you go I will go, and where you stay I will stay. Your people will be my people and your God my God. Where you die I will die, and there I will be buried. May the Lord deal with me, be it ever so severely, if anything but death separates you and me." (NIV)

1 Samuel 18:1

"...Jonathan became one in spirit with David and he loved him as himself." (NIV)

"...the soul of Jonathan was knit with the soul of David, and Jonathan loved him as his own soul" (KJV)

Bigfoot, you have questions to answer, and I cannot take you seriously until you answer them for me.

Why is it ok for you to nitpick bible verses and then proclaim them as 'God's will'? Leviticus opposes gays, true. A large portion of the bible also, as others have said, proposes slavery as just. Why is one antiquated, and the other somehow relevant?

And how do you come off judging people, saying they will go to hell for their sins?

Judge not, lest ye be judged. Matthew 7:1.

"Let he who has not sinned cast the first stone."

Perhaps you should take a page out of Jesus Christ's book.

Wait....maybe I missed it, but why exactly can't you have a gay coach or teacher? Of course you can have your religious views (even though, as others have pointed out, you are exercising a bit of selectivity in this area), but if you're not planning on sleeping with the coach yourself, why the heck would you care....or why is it even your business.....what his/her sexual orientation is?

Ahh, I should have foreseen that you would find EVERY little mention of it. Shame on me.

In that book you follow there are also quite a few quotes about love.

And the Lord make you to increase and abound in love one toward another, and toward all men, even as we do toward you: -- Thessalonians 3:12

There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear. -- John 4:18

Let brotherly love continue. -- Hebrews 13:1

Hatred stirreth up strifes: but love covereth all sins. -- Proverbs 10:12

And this is his commandment, That we should believe on the name of his Son Jesus Christ, and love one another, as he gave us commandment. --John 3:23

These things I command you, that ye love one another. -- John 15:17
Do not judge, or you too will be judged. For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you (Matthew 7:12).

Listen dude, I could sit here all night and argue with you about Bible verse. But your Holier-than-thou outlook on things is giving me a headache.

We're not going to agree on this. We never will. But for your own well being, I would advise you not to try to force your ideas on people.

I would also encourage you to please try to understand, God is Love, period.
He's the love that a mother feels when she holds her newborn "man cub"
He's the love that's transmitted from person to person, with the passing of a simple smile. He's the love that's shared between life-partners. He's a Love that's to be shared, with everyone, Homosexual, Heterosexual, Bisexual, Transsexual, and Pansexual (I'm forgetting someone). We are only human, who are we to deny, and degrade ANY form of Love. Who are we to dictate the terms that God Manifests himself.
That’s All I have to say.

DazzleMe!

Great post! Good night, BIG------OT is giving me a head ache as well.

Come on dazz, you asked "tell me where He says that" and I gave them to you. I

No one on this other than aside by brooklyn has asked anything about the racial slurs posted in starting letter - only gay-ness.

As I said, but obviously missed, I do have muslim and gay and... acquaintances. We have some great arguments. Were someone to send them hate mail, I would be the first to defend them. It is the sin I hate, not the Sinner.

Do I think they and the "free lovers" are sinnning and going to h, yes I do and the Book says so. It is not for me to judge them, He has already done so. Perhaps my minister is correct re: His verdict to sexual misadventures

Why won't I have a gay Coach , because I had one once and enough be said...it is not a pretty sight for a 10 year old to look at an adults manness in the shower coming toward him.

One thing I like about Deerfield, PA and HK is the religion courses they all offer, which T does not.

Brook, the posts have been enlightening. I am going to also look at Villanova. I might like it better. I will also need to check out some more things at the schools I am revisiting. Thanks
