The Deerfield publication I saw listed 2 as PG but then a bunch as '07. Obviously, some of their '07's are PGs as well.

The complexity abounds; D’s prep school had 40 new “juniors” arrive this year, many the size of houses. They would have three years of eligibility: junior, Senior, and PG.

Can’t Deerfield take a break one year in LAX?

Not only have they won all their games so far this SPring, there are some very lopsided scores.

Maybe they should just play colleges again like they did in the olden days?

Fun to see this old thread;

1) fif is awfully erudite – who’s better than me?
2) Looking at Deerfield’s schedule, only Avon Old Farms and Salisbury have a real shot at them…

Deerfield scrimmaged Gilman (current #1) in Florida this year and beat them. Since the social pecking order in Baltimore is largely determined by where mommy and daddy went to high school and how good Jr. is at lax; I can’t help but take great satisfaction in the fact that the Big Green could play with any of the Baltimore private schools. My Baltimore kid is playing lax at DA as I have no local connections.

FiF - Sarum has its problems on D this year.
LaXBall - why doesn’t Deerfiled just play colleges? Or move into Lawrenceville’s league? A bit more driving but way more competition.
FiF- May 20 Deerfield plays Lawrenceville, maybe nationally televised game?. They also will have a chance to beat them, but L’ville doesn’t look as good this year as last judging by their early results.

Sarum-
Since DA hasn’t had an undefeated season in a while, there’s plenty of good competition in the New England Prep leagues. While they win more than they lose, a quick check of past years’ results show many close games during the season. A move to a mid-Atlantic league in NJ is far more than a “bit more driving” wouldn’t you say since DA is about 6 hours north of L’ville. They’re good but not that good!

Missed Lawrenceville – Yep, they have a chance but don’t look as good as last year when the Larries were terrific (fif saw them eviscerate New Canaan last year).

Sarum – Lawrenceville’s league (Mercersburg, Blair) is terrible. What colleges would they play? And you’re right, the 13 that Salisbury gave up to Brunswick was disturbing.

The trip into L’ville’s league was just a thought. I don’t think Salisbury has beat D’field in years, and Salisbury has been pretty good.

fif thinks the last was the '04 team( fif’s son played defense for the Crimson Knights) – that team shared the West I crown with Deerfield that year, the first of three consecutive titles. 16 of the 18 seniors on that team played college lacrosse.

FOR EVERYONE’S INFORMATION, THE ENTIRE STARTING LINE IS PGs!!! I SAW BERKSHIRE PLAY DEERFIELD IN LAX!!! I ALSO SPOKE TO THE COACH FOR DEERFIELD.

1) Chill
2) Deerfield does not start 10 PG’s

Sorry for the caps. My point being though that it is excessive that Deerfield brings in so many PGs for one sport. From what I heard, they do sport a full line of PGs, and this is not a joke. Honestly, its not fair to think that a school with such high prestige should be permitted to take ten college students for their roster and let them play in order to destroy all other competition.

Just because an athlete is older (PG), does not necessarily mean he is a better athlete, though! My son’s club soccer (U17) team could have easily beaten his school soccer team this year (with 8 or 9 PG’s and the remainder seniors and juniors). Many of the school teams have athletes that did not necessarily play high level club. They are multi sport athletes in lots of cases and lack skill which can’t always be made up for by strength and speed in certain sports.

Before stating that the team is made up of mostly or all PGs, check out the team roster. It’s posted on the website and clearly shows a mix of students from all grades.
