Defer for a year if accepted off waitlist?

<p>I've been waitlisted at UM and am interested in taking a gap year next year to work and go abroad for a few months. Does anyone know if I can apply for a deferral if I am accepted off the waitlist or if the waitlist offer is only extended to this fall?</p>
