i am considering studying abroad after high school, but before i start college (gap year). do uc schools or schools like stanford or usc allow students to defer their enrollment if they want to study abroad before college?

You have to do your first quarter here at UCLA. After that, you can defer. I don’t know how it works if you’re looking at a UC study abroad program though…

CameronK,

Why not study abroad with the UC EAP program?

stanford has a “stop out” option; any student can tell the school they’re taking time off and they are allowed to do so as long as they want. Many schools have a deferral option before actually enrolling. However none of the UC schools do; if you don’t accept and enroll, you have to reapply.
