<p>I’ve been waitlisted at BC and am interested in taking a gap year next year to work and maybe go abroad for a few months. Does anyone know if I can apply for a deferral if I am accepted off the waitlist or if the waitlist offer is only extended to this fall?</p>

<p>^ Call the office of Undergrad and ask them if you can do that, but I don’t think it’s possible though.</p>
<p>The purpose of the wait list is to ensure that the school can fill all of its seats next fall (in case it guessed wrong about how many of the initial acceptances would actually enroll). Letting you defer enrollment for a year if you get called off the wait list sort of defeats that purpose, doesn’t it?</p>
<p>But the only person who can tell you for sure is a BC rep, so follow srb’s suggestion and call the school.</p>
